Cordyceps is a blend of cordyceps sinensis and Hepialus armoricanus from Tibetan Mountains of West China. This "Chinese Caterpillar" herb belongs to the fungus category and has been used as an adaptogen (for ch'i) in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Its has been primarily confined to energy production dynamics with applications in athletic enhancement. Research has shown an increase in liver ATP:Pi (inorganic phosphate) ratio indicating more energy within the liver for metabolism. Other areas of benefit are increasing SOD (an overall antioxidant) activity, strengthening immune function, kidney function and improving glucose metabolism.

Cordyceps is a unique black mushroom that extracts nutrients from and grows on a caterpillar found in the high altitudes of Tibet and China. Even though it is difficult to find and harvest, cordyceps is one of the most valued medicinal agents in the Chinese medical tradition.
Fortunately for consumers, a patented lab fermentation process has allowed large-scale production and availability of cordyceps. While it has served for centuries as a general tonic for promoting longevity, vitality, and endurance, it is now being researched for its potential for increasing energy, aiding respiration, treating kidney disorders, and more.

Habitat: Cordyceps sinensis widely spread at Tibet where the elevations are over 3,000 meters with cold climate. , and other provinces such as Qing Hai,Gan Su,SiChuan,YunNan,Guizhou and Xin Jiang province of China.
Botanical Description:
Cordyceps sinensis is a highly valued medicinal mushroom in both Classical Chinese Medicine and modern clinical practice. In China it is called "winter worm, summer grass", and the "caterpillar mushroom". Cordyceps is found in the highlands of China, Tibet, and Nepal, above 10,000 feet.
Ancient classicals from China, such as Ben Cao Gang Mu,Ben Cao Cong Xin,Si Bu Yi Dian etc all suggest it "benefit lung and tonify kidney, treatment all kinds of weakness, tonify Qi and professional benefit life gate.", strongly boost immune system of body and extend life and anti-aging.
Cordyceps is a Chinese mushroom used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for "lung protection" and "reproductive invigoration" as well as to balance the "Qi" ,the fundamental "energy of life." Cordyceps is also known as the Chinese caterpillar fungus (yuck!) because it is a parasitic organism that grows on a rare Tibetan caterpillar until the caterpillar dies and the mushroom sprouts from the caterpillar's head (double yuck!!). Luckily, the source of cordyceps used in most modern supplements is not pulverized caterpillar heads, but a strain grown on soybeans or other less disgusting nutrient source.
Cordyceps Mushroom is also known as Deer Fungus and Caterpillar Fungus. In its native China, it is known as Dong Chong Xia Chao, which means winter-worm, summer grass. The fruiting body of the Cordyceps Mushroom is grass-like in appearance. Tibetan herdsmen first discovered Cordyceps over a thousand years ago in the high plateaus of that region, thinking it was a type of grass. They noticed that when their sheep and yaks grazed on Cordyceps they became stronger and healthier. Later, Chinese herbalists began to use Cordyceps for a host of human ailments. The mushroom was used as a cure-all, but was especially thought to be an aphrodisiac and a supplement for healthy male sexual function. Recently, Cordyceps has been shown to stimulate the immune system and contain anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It has also been demonstrated that Cordyceps enhances blood circulation and can lower LDL cholesterol while raising beneficial HDL cholesterol. Cordyceps is still used in China as a support product for sexual function and as an energy booster. Chinese athletes use Cordyceps as a safe alternative to dangerous performance-enhancing drugs. Along with Reishi and Shiitake, Cordyceps is among the most beneficial of mushrooms.
Cordyceps Sinensis and Its History:
The Cordyceps Sinensis is carefully prepared by using the best wild King Cordyceps Sinensis from Qinghai, which is cultured in the laboratory to obtain the mycellium. Then, a series of qualitative and quantitative tests and comparison are conducted and state-of-the-art of bio-engineering technology is employed to make the product. Its efficacy components are the same as those of wild King Cordyceps Sinensis.
In ancient China, cordyceps was used in the Emperor's palace and was considered to have ginseng-like properties. It was used to strengthen the body after exhaustion or long-term illness, and for impotence, neurasthenia, and backache. It was also used to cure opium addiction.
Cordyceps, one of the most valued traditional Chinese medicines, is used commonly for the replenishment of body health.
It is used commonly in China to replenish the kidney and soothe the lung, for the treatment of fatigue, night sweating, hyposexualities, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, asthenia after severe illness, respiratory disease, renal dysfunction and renal failure, arrhythmias and other heart disease, and liver disease (Zhu et al., 1998). Recent studies have demonstrated its multiple pharmacological actions-such as anti-oxidation activity (Yamaguchi et al., 2000a; 2000b; Li et al., 2001b), potentiating the immune system (Liu et al., 1992; Xu et al., 1992) and anti-tumor activities (Ohmori et al., 1986; Yoshida et al., 1989; Chen et al., 1997).
Cordyceps Sinensis According to Chinese traditional medicine, having the efficacy of enhancing vitality and endurance, tonifying and nourishing the kidneys and the lungs, tranquilizing the mind, and arresting coughing. Cordyceps Sinensis is suitable for both male and female at all ages, especially the middle-aged and the elderly, people with delicate constitution, or patients in their recuperation. It is used for therapy of impotency, anemia, coughing and night sweat and insomnia.
In the second century, B.C., the first emperor of China used Cordyceps Sinensis religiously as a tonic for longevity. The legendary Chinese beauty Yang Kue-fei (719-756 A.D.) also took Cordyceps regularly, crediting the rare mushroom as her fountain of youth. Today, thousands of years later, Cordyceps Sinensis is a top seller in the U.S. What have the ancient Chinese known for centuries about this exotic mushroom that the rest of the world has just begun to discover?
For the answer, let's look at the history of Cordyceps Sinensis. Years ago, the Yung people of the Himalayas first noticed that animals grazing on a tiny, grass-like mushroom became more energetic and agile. Even the older cattle showed signs of increased vigor. Intrigued, the herders began to harvest the mushroom and soon observed that human consumption seemed to yield the same benefits. From there, logic follows that it should have been only a matter of time before knowledge and use of this mushroom became widespread. However, this was not the case...
Cordyceps Sinensis grows wild in the Tibetan Plateau, approximately 15,000 feet above sea level. The low oxygen levels, harsh climate and inhospitable environment ensure that few life forms survive. Those that do are incredibly adaptable, having developed powerful defenses against the elements. Thus, the harsher the environment in which the mushroom is harvested, the higher the grade. While other manufacturers utilize a lower grade mushroom that is easier to harvest, it only this select, highest grade Cordyceps Sinensis that Noevir uses in our nutritional supplement.
The Sherpas who harvest this mushroom today consider it the "elixir of life" and worth "more than gold".
In a narrow window of four weeks between May and June when it is in season, even expert foragers unearth less than 10 Cordyceps mushrooms per day. The annual harvest of the highest grade Cordyceps mushrooms worldwide is less than 660 pounds, making it one of the rarest and most precious mushrooms available. This explains why Cordyceps Sinensis, so highly regarded in traditional Chinese medicine, was long an exclusive privilege of Chinese royalty.
Modern technology has allowed Noevir chemists to improve on this remarkable ancient elixir using a unique double-extraction method to ensure the highest in potency and purity of the finished product. But the most impressive detail of all is what users of this exotic mushroom have to say about Cordyceps Sinensis. Subjects report increased energy and stamina, less fatigue and a youthful vitality. Conveniently packaged in 30 single-serve packets, Noevir Cordyceps Sinensis is a perfect daily nutritional supplement for the health-conscious, athletes, middle-aged, mature and anyone suffering from day to day stress.
Phytochemicals and Constituents:
Current research indicates the nucleotides (adenosine), polysaccharides, cordycepin and amino acids are responsible for its therapeutic potential. This material is standardized to contain a minimum of 0.2% adenosine and 7% cordycepic acid. Research indicates cordyceps has a very low incidence of toxicity.
Cordyceps contains a wide variety of potentially important constituents, including polysaccharides, ophiocordin (an antibiotic compound), cordycepin, cordypyridones, nucleosides, bioxanthracenes, sterols, alkenoic acids, and exo-polymers.

Cordyceps has been regarded as a very safe herb throughout its traditional history, and is considered completely safe for clinical use today. Experiments on animals have not found a lethal dose, even when Cordyceps is given in extremely high amounts (10 to 80 grams per kilogram of body weight), nor does Cordyceps have any teratogenic or mutagenic effects. Instances of mild stomach discomfort have been reported in clinical trials.
Adaptogens:
Like other adaptogens, cordyceps may both decrease fatigue and increase physical endurance. When administered to mice, cordyceps increases swimming endurance capacity from 75 minutes to 90 minutes, and when given to rats, cordyceps prevents the weight changes of various glands during a period of chronic stress as well as preventing other biochemical stress markers. In double-blind, placebo controlled trials in humans, cordyceps has significantly improved aerobic capacity in healthy elderly volunteers in cycling ergometer tests and significantly increased maximal oxygen intake and total ventilation capacity during incremental work-rate cycling. In another 6 week trial, cordyceps decreased basal glucose, blood lactic acid, and respiratory exchange ratio during prolonged submaximal exercise in healthy volunteers, indicating improved glucose metabolism and increased lipid oxidation during exercise. Cordyceps also facilitates the adaption to hypoxic (low-oxygen) environments in mice.
Cordyceps sinensis is an herb that has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A fungus that grows on caterpillar larvae, cordyceps is traditionally used to improve reproductive function, prevent fatigue, and prevent aging. Studies indicate that it modulates immune response, inhibits tumor growth, decreases blood pressure, improves the bioenergy status of the liver, and enhances reproductive function. It has a variety of active ingredients, including some unique polysaccharides, proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, nonhormonal sterols, trace elements, flavones, 2'-deoxyadenosine, and cordycepin. Cordyceps is an adaptogen that may be useful in increasing endurance, improving general health, and increasing testosterone levels. This article will examine some of the more well known pharmacological activities of cordyceps.
Nowadays Cordyceps Sinensis is something new, special, and hardly familiar to the Western world. Scientists have not managed to study it properly for the time being. The greatest source of information about Cordyceps is its motherland 每 China, where researchers have already been working for some time on the unclosing the secrets and mysteries of the fungus.
The further statements about health benefits of the mushroom are the results of the numerous Chinese trials of Cordyceps; therefore, they are at first hand.
For natural Cordyceps Sinensis, it takes about six years to complete its life cycle, consequently, the natural product to be extremely rare. Due to the scarcity and high price of natural Cordyceps, scientists have developed a variety of mycelial products to be used as the substitutes.
Benefiting vascular system: by improving circulation, regulating blood pressure, and strengthening the heart muscle.
Building muscles and improving physical performance: Those Chinese athletes, who use Cordyceps, tend to show better results than the other sportsmen.
Heart disease: In clinical studies significant improvements were found in stroke volume, heartbeat, cardiac output etc. in the Cordyceps group vs. the control group.
Disorder of the immune system: Cordyceps appears to be one of the most adaptive immunomodulators.
Enhancing and strengthening of the immune system: Cordyceps is supposed to increase the number of the Natural Killer Cells, which are responsible for the body defense against viruses and bacteria. Some trials show that the fungus works effectively in the leukemia stricken individuals.
Enhancing cellular oxygen uptake: This benefits all the body systems, giving them more energy and vitality.
Fatigue: Cordyceps is used by competitive athletes in the treatment of fatigue and weakness, and to improve endurance and increase energy.
Improving sexual function in men and increasing libido by stimulating the production of sex hormones: Cordyceps may also be a means for fighting female infertility.
Improving the respiratory function: Cordyceps shows good results in fighting against cough, chronic bronchitis and asthma, since it relaxes bronchial walls and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Increase testosterone levels:Sexual dysfunction in men:
Cordyceps can benefit many men who have problems involving sexual function.
Cordyceps may also increase testosterone levels, and this effect has been seen in multiple in vitro studies. This effect was also recently seen in vivo in mice with low testosterone production, in which cordyceps increased plasma testosterone levels by approximately 170%. It is hypothesized that the testosterone increase is due to polysaccharides and/or glycoproteins in cordyceps that are similar to LH in structure and bind to LH receptors, stimulating testosterone production.
There is a wide body of evidence showing that cordyceps both acts as an antioxidant and directly modulates the immune system. Administration of cordyceps to humans has been reported to increase superoxide dismutase activity by 54%. In animal studies, cordyceps decreases lipid peroxides and inhibits the development of atherosclerosis caused by oxidative stress and decreases levels of LDL cholesterol. In addition to these cardiovascular benefits, coryceps decreases blood pressure by increasing levels of nitric oxide, and for this reason it may be helpful both for those with hypertension and for those with erectile dysfunction.
Liver disease: Cordyceps can improve symptoms and liver-cell structures dramatically. Cirrhosis cells disappeared in 70 percent of the patients.
Polysaccharide and Cholesterol:
Cordyceps reduces the amount of "bad" LDL cholesterol and increases the amount "good" HDL cholesterol. In one study, Cordyceps lowered total cholesterol levels by over 17 percent.
Improved insulin sensitivity due to cordyceps has been demonstrated in both normal rats and humans. These effects are presumably mediated by the polysaccharide fraction of cordyceps, and multiple polysaccharides from cordyceps which reduce blood sugar in diabetic mice have been identified. It should be noted that cordyceps should be used with caution by those with low blood sugar.
Providing anti-aging and fatigue reducing effects: The fungus works as an antioxidant and increases cellular formation, especially in the elderly patients. It also promotes more restful sleep, soothes the nervous system, and reduces anxiety, thus working as a sedative.
Protecting liver and kidneys: Cordyceps improves blood flow to these organs (as well as to the others), which results in their better activity and ability to fight the diseases, including Hepatitis and chronic kidney disease.
Some people may think of the fungi as of something disgusting and ugly. However, the mushrooms do not look so when in a tablet or a capsule. Moreover, Cordyceps will definitely become even attractive to those, who have no trust in the pharmaceutical drugs any more. 2-4 grams (some people consume even up to 9 grams) of the mushrooms per day,it is nor an exorbitant price for the health improvement, which may become obvious as soon as in 1-2 months.
Cordyceps is said to be safe and has no side effects:
However, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children are not recommended to use it, since no studies have been conducted in such persons.
Luckily, time, progress, and the growing demands of the modern society make the scientists keep on working on the unsolved problems and open questions of today. That gives us hopes that soon Cordyceps will become an open book easy to read and understand for all the people.
It regulates and ensures the normal functioning of various parts of the body, strengthens the immune system and promotes overall vitality and longevity. This product provides tremenduous health benefits as listed below:
Tonifying arrhythmia:
It is very effective in tonifying arrhythmia with an efficacy up to 94%. When the product was applied to 200 different ailments, no toxic side effect was detected.
It can be used as a substitute to natural Cordyceps Sinensis in the treatment of Chronic Nephropathy, Chronic Nephritis. Moreoer, it has a diuretic effect and is good for the prevention of Nephralgia.
Strengthen the immune system:It helps strengthen the immune system of tumour patients who have received radiotherapy, Chemotherapy or operation. It is remarkable for stabilizing the hemogram, increasing the blood cells and protein for producing blood plasma, and for eliminating the ill effects after various therapies. Furthermore, the product is a synergist for reinforcing the efficacy of radiotherapy.
It provides remarkable benefits for various Climatic Age Illness, Impotence, Emission, Neurasthenia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Cirrhosis, flabby waist and knee.
It is also effective in lowering the lipoproteinemia level, and in preventing Arterio-Sclerosis, Coronary heart disease as well as certain other diseases related to blood vessels of the brain.
It helps stimulate the immune system of the elderly and strengthen their resistance to illness. Frequent dosage can prevent senile disorders.
Aging is due to the insufficient secretion of sexual hormones. Cordyceps Sinensis is, in this regard, a hormone stimulator. Morever, the aging effect is to a large extent attributed to the rise of active monoamine oxidize enzyme inside the body and Cordyceps Sinensis can effectively inhibit the rising of such enzyme. Thus, it is an anti-aging medicine which helps regenerate the organic functioning of humans. After a three-week dose, patients with the aforesaid symptoms would feel promising improvement. In general, this product is a tonic good for bodily nourishment and for stimulating brain activity. Long-term administration can reinforce the body against foreign attacks, improve the organic functioning, strengthen the immune system and in turn help bring longevity.
Cordyceps-History and Science:
The historical use of Cordyceps as an anti-aging herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) dates back to 1700 BCE. During China's Chin Dynasty, one emperor is said to have paid an ounce of gold for a three days supply of the precious fungus. Tibetan scholars wrote detailed descriptions of Cordyceps in 15th and 18th century texts. Cordyceps was introduced to Europe at a scientific meeting in Paris in 1726.
The traditional use of Cordyceps includes improving circulation, as well as health of the lungs, heart, kidneys and liver. Cordyceps was also used to boost general vitality, increase longevity and improve sexual health. Cordyceps is known as a "kidney tonic" in traditional Chinese medicine. In the terminology of TCM theory, "the kidneys" refer to a functional organ system that stores vital energy and governs reproduction/sexual ability. Cordyceps promotes both the "yin and yang" aspect of the body, thus it has a very balancing, normalizing effect on many facets of human physiology.
Commercial cultivation of Cordyceps sinensis began in the early 1980s, making the herb readily available for clinical research. More than 2000 patients have been enrolled in clinical trials in China. The results of this research show that cultivated Cordyceps has the same effects as wild Cordyceps on energy, vitality and numerous other parameters of health.
Pre-clinical Animal Studies: Higher biochemical energy levels; more efficient use of oxygen:
Animal experiments suggest Cordyceps may increase the body's supply of ATP, which is the primary form of biochemical energy used by cells to produce metabolic energy. Mice given Cordyceps show substantial increases in liver stores of ATP. Cordyceps increased survival time of mice kept in a low oxygen environment, suggesting that Cordyceps helps the body use oxygen more efficiently. Studies are underway in China to determine if these findings explain the energy enhancing, anti-fatigue effects of Cordyceps observed in humans. Animal experiments indicate Cordyceps may improve blood supply to the brain and heart by increasing arterial blood flow to these organs.
Human Clinical Trials:
The various effects of Cordyceps on humans have been seen in both open (uncontrolled) and placebo-controlled human trials. Cordyceps was given to a group of elderly persons experiencing fatigue and other age-related complaints. Compared to subjects on placebo, those taking Cordyceps reported better energy, greater tolerance to cold, better memory and improved libido. Similar improvements in energy, mental health and sexual function, along with improvements in heart function, were seen in a long-term study giving Cordyceps to patients with chronic heart failure. Further evidence that Cordyceps benefits the cardiovascular system is shown in trials where the herb has improved heart rhythm as seen on ECG.
Clinical trials appear to validate the traditional uses of Cordyceps as a beneficial herb for the lungs, respiratory system, kidneys, liver and immune system. At a dose of 3 grams per day, Cordyceps improved respiratory function and lung health by as much as 92 % after 12 weeks. In several trials, Cordyceps has improved various parameters of kidney function such as increased creatinine clearance, reduced BUN and decreased in urinary protein excretion. Cordyceps also protects the kidneys from the toxic effects of potent antibiotics, as seen in both human and animal studies.Cordyceps has successfully improved liver health, as measured by liver function tests, in patients with hepatitis and liver cirrhosis.Numerous in vitro and in vivo animal studies have shown that Cordyceps influences various aspects of immune function, including phagocytosis, natural killer cells, interleukin-2 and T lymphocytes. Positive changes in T cells have been observed in human trials, as well.
Antioxidant effects:
Extracts of Cordyceps exhibit strong free radical scavenging properties. Cordyceps has increased red blood cell SOD activity in humans, while at the same time reducing blood levels of MDA (monodialdehyde), a free radical by-product. Cordyceps shows an ability to inhibit both oxidation of LDL by free radicals and the accumulation of oxidized LDL in macrophages. Cordyceps has also decreased cholesterol deposition in the aortas of atherosclerotic mice.
Safety:
Cordyceps has been regarded as a very safe herb throughout its traditional history, and is considered completely safe for clinical use today. Experiments on animals have not found a lethal dose, even when Cordyceps is given in extremely high amounts (10 to 80 grams per kilogram of body weight), nor does Cordyceps have any teratogenic or mutagenic effects. Instances of mild stomach discomfort have been reported in clinical trials.
Theory:
Cordyceps could be the next Ginseng due to its reported effects on increasing energy levels, sex drive and athletic performance. You may remember mention of cordyceps in the news a few years ago when several Chinese athletes came from out of nowhere to break world records in swimming and running. It turns out that the athletes were following a supplementation regimen that included cordyceps. Although the pharmacologically active components of cordyceps remain unknown, at least two chemical constituents; cordycepin (deoxyadenosine) and cordycepic acid (mannitol) have been identified and suggested as being the active compounds in improving lung function and increasing energy levels and sex drive.

Cordyceps (short for Cordyceps sinensis) is a rare Chinese mushroom that grows naturally on certain species of caterpillars. Fortunately, the cordyceps that are used today are cultivated through fermentation--that means, without caterpillars! For thousands of years, cordyceps have been used by Chinese healers as tonic for sexual vigor and overall vitality. It makes sense that cordyceps would be an effective aphrodisiac. Similar to ginkgo and other sex-enhancing herbs, cordyceps increases arterial blood flow, which sends more blood flowing to the pelvic area. According to Chinese studies, cordyceps can also improve athletic performance. A recent double-blind crossover study performed at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota confirms that, when combined with other tonic herbs, including Asian ginseng, enoki mushroom, green tangerine peel, reishi mushroom, and Siberian ginseng, cordyceps can speed recovery in athletes. . . . In the study, twelve well-trained college athletes were either given a placebo or 950 mg. of the combination herbal formula for five weeks. At the end of the five weeks, the athletes cycled intensely for twenty minutes, rested for twelve minutes, then completed cycling. There was little difference in performance between the two groups, although those who took the herbs finished slightly faster than the placebo group. The real difference, however, was in the accumulation of lactic acid postexercise. Those who took the herbs had significantly less lactic-acid build up. As many of you know, lactic acid is a byproduct of glucose that builds up in muscles during anaerobic exercise (high-intensity exercise like weight-lifting or sprinting). Lactic acid buildup is what makes muscles sore after a hard workout. From this study, it's reasonable to assume that cordyceps may help speed recover after intense exercise. Given its long-standing reputation as a tonic herb, it may also help relieve fatigue.
Cordyceps sinensis, an extremely popular compound in Chinese medicine has made notable inroads in modern sports nutrition. Rightfully so. Cordyceps extract increases ATP by supplying direct precursor, c-AMP, and also facilitates the use of body fat for energy.
Cordyceps sinensis is a potent herb that has been used for centuries in Chinese traditional medicine. It has several traditional uses, including treatment for asthma, increased physical performance and as an aphrodisiac. Cordyceps has been shown to improve athletic performance, to increase testosterone production in men and increase cAMP,the chemical messenger that triggers the release of stored fat into the bloodstream.
Cordyceps elicits a consistent increase in the ATP/ inorganic phosphate ratio. It is this ratio that signifies a higher energy state. This unique fungus from the Tibetan mountains has also been shown to enhance the ability to endure oxygen shortage by improving oxygen efficiency.
Pharmacological and Clinical Research:
Research shows that Cordyceps is beneficial for the heart, liver and immune system etc.
1. Heart disease: In clinical studies significant improvements were found in stroke volume, heartbeat, cardiac output etc. in the Cordyceps group vs. the control group.
2. Cholesterol: Cordyceps reduces the amount of "bad" LDL cholesterol and increases the amount "good" HDL cholesterol. In one study, Cordyceps lowered total cholesterol levels by over 17 percent.
3. Liver disease: Cordyceps can improve symptoms and liver-cell structures dramatically. Cirrhosis cells disappeared in 70 percent of the patients.
4. Sexual dysfunction in men: Cordyceps can benefit many men who have problems involving sexual function.
5. Disorder of the immune system: Cordyceps appears to be one of the most adaptive immunomodulators.
6. Fatigue: Cordyceps is used by competitive athletes in the treatment of fatigue and weakness, and to improve endurance and increase energy.
Cordyceps Sinensis, a plant of the ergot family, is a traditional and precious dried Chineses medicinal herb belonging to the fungus category. It was highly recommended by ancient medical practitioners as the most effective cure for all illness. Owing to the herb's high efficacy and potency in curing various diseases, it is well-known as an important nourishing tonic. However, as the sourcing and gathering of the herb is rare and difficult, so its supply often falls short of demand.
It regulates and ensures the normal functioning of various parts of the body, strengthens the immune system and promotes overall vitality and longevity. This product provides tremenduous health benefits as listed below:
1. Cordyceps is very effective in tonifying arrhythmia with an efficacy up to 94%. When the product was applied to 200 different ailments, no toxic side effect was detected.
2. Cordyceps can be used as a substitute to natural Cordyceps Sinensis in the treatment of Chronic Nephropathy, Chronic Nephritis. Moreoer, it has a diuretic effect and is good for the prevention of Nephralgia.
3. Cordyceps helps strengthen the immune system of tumour patients who have received radiotherapy, Chemotherapy or operation. It is remarkable for stabilizing the hemogram, increasing the blood cells and protein for producing blood plasma, and for eliminating the ill effects after various therapies. Furthermore, the product is a synergist for reinforcing the efficacy of radiotherapy.
4. Cordyceps provides remarkable benefits for various Climatic Age Illness, Impotence, Emission, Neurasthenia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Cirrhosis, flabby waist and knee.
5. Cordyceps is also effective in lowering the lipoproteinemia level, and in preventing Arterio-Sclerosis, Coronary heart disease as well as certain other diseases related to blood vessels of the brain.
6. Cordyceps helps stimulate the immune system of the elderly and strengthen their resistance to illness. Frequent dosage can prevent senile disorders.
7. One of the reasons for aging is due to the insufficient secretion of sexual hormones.
History,Traditional and Reported Uses:
Traditionally, the powdered fungus is mixed with other tonic herbal medicines such as ginseng, or it may be boiled and taken as a tea or soaked in alcohol for a tincture. It is mainly used to treat low energy following serious illness and as a strengthening tonic.Other traditional uses include the treatment of cough, anemia, tuberculosis, lower back pain (Pegler et al., 1994), impotence, infertility, irregular menstruation, night sweats, and senile weakness.
It continues to be used as a tranquilizer or sedative in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) (Ying et al., 1987; Liu and Bau, 1980; Guo, 1986), although compared to Western drug standards these effects are inherently mild. Cordyceps is also taken in TCM to keep the lungs fit, strengthen the kidneys, build up the bone marrow, reduce phlegm, and stop hemorrhages (Ying et al., 1987; Liu and Bau, 1980).
Cordyceps' ability to increase vitality and respiratory health is linked, studies suggest, to its role in improving the availability of oxygen to the lungs and bloodstream. These functions could prove useful for the treatment of asthma and bronchitis.
In addition to supporting the respiratory system, cordyceps may help the body ward off certain types of cancer. Studies have suggested that the mushroom can decrease the reproduction of cancer cells. Cordyceps has also been used to help alleviate some of the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Cordyceps has also affected the activity of the immune system. Numerous studies show opposite results. Depending on the part of cordyceps studied, either immune system stimulation or immune system suppression was noted.Uneducated use of cordyceps in people with diseases affecting the immune system, including people using medications to either stimulate or suppress their immune system could cause serious problems with their therapy.
Other studies have focused on Cordyceps' role in supporting kidney function. It is believed that cordyceps may help facilitate the processes by which toxins are processed in the kidneys, while strengthening the overall health of the organ.
Cordyceps' role as an antioxidant, as well as its possible role in supporting cardiovascular health, are also part of its list of potential benefits. One study suggests that cordyceps increases the body's supply of an enzyme that hunts down free radicals. This may explain its role as an antioxidant. The risk of atherosclerosis may be lowered by cordyceps because of its ability to reduce blood cholesterol levels in some studies.
Scientific Support and Functions:
Although a number of studies have been conducted on cordyceps in China, relatively little information is available from U.S.-based scientists. A few animal studies have shown cordyceps feeding to increase the ratio of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to inorganic phosphate (Pi) in the liver by 45-55% - an effect that may be viewed as beneficial in terms of energy state and potential for performance enhancement. Furthermore, mice fed cordyceps and subjected to an extreme low oxygen environment, were able to utilize oxygen more efficiently (30-50% increase), better tolerate acidosis and hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and live 2-3 times longer than a control group. A number of Chinese clinical studies, primarily in elderly patients with fatigue, cordyceps-treated patients reported significant improvements in their level of fatigue, ability to tolerate cold temperatures, memory and cognitive capacity and sex drive. Patients with respiratory diseases also reported feeling physically stronger. Overall, the efficacy rate for cordyceps in alleviating fatigue in elderly subjects was 80-90%. In addition to its effects on energy levels, possibly due to the adenosine content of cordyceps, the mushroom extract can also induce sex steroid-like effects (in mice) 每 which may account for the increased libido reported by elderly subjects in several studies. Recently, a small study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting (1999), showed that a cordyceps-based supplement (CordyMax, Pharmanex) significantly increases maximal oxygen uptake and anaerobic threshold, which may lead to improved exercise capacity and resistance to fatigue.
Much of what is known about Cordyceps sinensis we owe to the research of Dr. Georges Halpern, a physician and professor emeritus with the University of Hong Kong, and author of several books about Cordyceps.
Research suggests that Cordyceps may improve the BIO ENERGY status of animals and probably in humans. This would happen because Cordyceps improves the internal balance mechanism, thus making the utilization of OXYGEN more efficient. These properties may account for the overall physical enhancement, the added endurance, and the anti-fatigue effects which are seen in humans using the Cordyceps supplement.
1. Cordyceps Improves the Respiratory Function:
Several scientific studies have demonstrated the benefits of Cordyceps sinensis in alleviating the symptoms of several respiratory illnesses including chronic bronchitis and asthma (Reference 2, Chapter "Effects on the Respiratory System", pages 429-432). In a double blind, placebo controlled study with 30 elderly volunteers Cordyceps significantly improved the maximum amount of oxygen these people were able to assimilate.
2.Cordyceps increases cellular Oxygen Absorption by up to 40%:
(Lou Y, Liao X, Lu Y. Cardiovascular pharmacological studies of ethanol extracts of Cordyceps mycelia and Cordyceps fermentation solution. Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1986;17(5):17-21,209-213) Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases improvement of 40% after Cordyceps supplement. (Wang WQ. J. Administration Traditional Chinese Med 1995;5 (supp;):24)
3. Cordyceps Improves the Functioning of the Heart:
Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefits of Cordyceps sinensis on heart rhythm disturbances, such as cardiac arrhythmias and chronic heart failure (Reference 2, Chapter "Effects on the Cardiovascular System", pages 436 每 441).
An even more vigorous study was conducted using "in vivo" mouse model induced acute Pulmonary Edema (Pneumonia) which causes systemic lack of oxygen, acidic body, and death. Research results show that animals taking Cordyceps had a significantly greater survival rate of 20% mortality vs. 80% mortality in 30 minutes. This is a startling 400% improvement. (From Wan F, Zhang S. Clinical observations of fermented Cordyceps sinensis (Cs-4) in antitussive, expectorant, and antathematic effects. Collection on the Basic Medicinal and Clinical Studies of Submerged Culture Cordyceps sinensis. Beijing, Nanchang, China:Jiangxi TCM/IMM, 1985:35-39)
4. Cordyceps Helps Maintain Cholesterol:
Four excellent studies have demonstrated that Cordyceps sinensis helps to lower total cholesterol by 10 to 21% and triglycerides by 9 to 26%. At the same time it helps to increase HDL-cholesterol ("good cholesterol") by 27 to 30% (Reference 1, Chapter "Effects on blood lipid metabolism and arteriosclerosis", pages 299 每 301).
Blood Cells:Improves Blood Cell Viability & Function.
Genetic: Promotes DNA Repair
Liver Protection: Improves Liver Functions, helps with Hepatitis and Cirrhosis Sub chronic and chronic hepatitis on related liver diseases are more prevalent than most people think. Liver is the living filter of the human body, cleaning the blood and all other fluids of impurities. There is no way for you to survive, much less feel healthy, without a functioning liver.
Research clinical trials on 33 patients with Hepatitis "B" and on another 8 patients with cirrhosis taking Cordyceps supplement showed 71.9% improvement on "Thymol Turbidity Test" and 78.6% improvement in "SGPT Test" both of these are enzyme test showing improving functions of the liver. (Zhou LT, Yang YZ, Xu YM, Zhu QY, Zhu YR, Ge XY, Gao JD. Short term curative effect of cultured Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc. Mycelia in chronic hepatitis B. China J Chinese Materia Medica 1990;15(1):53-55)
5. Chronic kidney diseases improvement:
Chronic kidney diseases improvement of 51% after only one month with Cordyceps supplement.(Jiang JC, Gao YF. J Administration Traditional Chinese Med 1995;5(suppl):23-24)
6. Cordyceps Reduces Tumor Size in Cancer Patients:
Several clinical studies have been conducted in China with cancer patients. The studies were done with CSE (Cordyceps sinensis mycelium) using a therapeutic dose of 6 grams per day (= 4 capsules twice daily). In one study with 50 lung cancer patients administered CSE in conjunction with chemotherapy, tumors reduced in size in 46% of patients. A study in cancer patients with various types of tumors found CSE (6 g/day for over 2 months) improved subjective symptoms in the majority of patients. White blood cell counts were maintained and tumor size was significantly reduced in about half of the patients. Researchers reported that CSE enhances the general reactivity of the immune system in individuals with cancer. To discover this, they subcutaneously injected mice with cancerous (lymphoma) cells and then orally administered CSE. This lead to a reduction of tumor size and prolongation of the host survival time. CSE also improved the antibody responses.
7. Immune System:
Increases NK cell activity, makes more MUSCLE:Increases Power, builds better/younger cells.
Recharge the Protective Army of NK cells:Your body's ability to fight infections and tumors depends on the availability of Natural Killer (NK) Cells. These are essential first lines of defense for our body's protection mechanisms commonly known as the Immune System.
Several scientific studies of Cordyceps have especially focused on Natural Killer (NK) cells and Cordyceps effect on them and cancer formation. One such in-vitro study demonstrated Cordyceps adding significant enhancement of NK cell activity in normal individuals as well as leukemia stricken individuals. (Liu C, Lu S, Ji MR, Xie Y. effects of Cordyceps sinensis on in-vitro natural killer cells.
Chinese J Integrated Traditional Western Med (Chung-Kuo Chung His I Chieh Ho Tsa Chih) 1992;12(5):267-269) showed that natural Cordyceps enhanced the NK cell activity of normal patients by 74% and increased the NK activity of leukemia patients by 400% and similar improvements of NK cell activities was found in big melanoma cancer (Xu RH, Peng XE, Chen GZ, Chen GL. Effects of Cordyceps sinensis on natural killer activity and colony formation of B16 melanoma. Chinese Med J 1992;105(2):97-101)
8. Improvements in the Immune System:
The improvements in the Immune System were so impressive that Dr. Zhu at the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine 1998 stated: ※Because of the above profound influence on immune functions, natural Cordyceps products have been used in many clinical conditions in patients with altered immune functions.§
9. Anti-aging:
The First Anti-Aging Supplement Known to Mankind,It's An Anti-Aging Fighter with clinical research proof in controlled studies which showed that elderly patients suffering from fatigue and some senility related symptoms reported. Improvements in the reduction of fatigue 92%, of feeling cold 89%, in dizziness 83%, after taking Cordyceps for 30 days. Patients with respiratory/breathing problems felt physically stronger and some were able to jog for 600 ft. (Cao A, Wen Y. J Applied Traditional Chinese Med 1993;1:32-33)
10. Cordyceps Protects against Free Radical Damage:
Several studies have shown that Cordyceps sinensis protects against the damages caused by free radicals, and as such has powerful antioxidant properties (Reference 1, Chapter "?ntisenescence and Oxygen-Free Radical Scavenging Activity")
11. Cordyceps Reduces Fatigue:
Several studies with animals have demonstrated that Cordyceps sinensis increases the cellular energy production and oxygen supply. A double blind, placebo controlled investigation showed a marked reduction in fatigue in elderly patients when they were given three grams of Cordyceps daily. In another study, Cordyceps sinensis improved shortness of breath and reduced fatigue in patients suffering from chronic heart failure (Reference 1, Chapter "Improvement of physical performance and quality of life", pages 293~295).
12. Cordyceps Helps Discomforts from Tired Legs:
Several studies have shown that Cordyceps sinensis improves the flow of blood in the body by relaxing the smooth muscles of the blood vessels allowing them to expand. Cordyceps also improves the functioning of the heart and lungs (see above). Cordyceps therefore prevents or reduces the contraction of blood vessels which interferes with the flow of blood vessels in the legs, the main cause of tired legs (Reference 2, Chapter "Effect on the Cardiovascular System", pages 436~441).
Increases ATP Synthesis, Promotes Faster Energy Recovery, Reduces Fatigue, Improves Physical Function, Provides More Stamina.
15. Cordyceps Improves Stamina and Athletic Performance:
Several studies with animals have shown that Cordyceps sinensis increases the cellular energy production and oxygen uptake ( Reference 1, Chapter "Improvement of physical performance and quality of life", pages 293 每 295). A study with mice demonstrated their improved swimming capabilities after six weeks of Cordyceps supplementation compared with a control group (Reference 3, page 260).
Cellular energy, which is also known scientifically as the ATP/IP ratio. Cordyceps has been clinically proven to increase cellular Bio-Energy by as much as 55% (Reported XU C.F et al in ZHU J-S, Halpern GM, Jones K. The Scientific rediscovery of a precious ancient Chinese herbal regimen: Cordyceps sinensis: Part I. J Alt Comp Med 1998;4(3):289-303.)
17. Cordyceps Combats Sexual Dysfunction:
Three separate Chinese double blind and placebo-controlled studies with over 200 men with "reduced libido and other sexual problems" showed remarkably similar results. On average, 64% of the Cordyceps-users reported significant improvement at the conclusion of the experimental period compared with 24% of the placebo group. In another double blind, placebo controlled study conducted with 21 elderly women with similar complaints, 90% reported improvements of their condition following the use of Cordyceps, compared with none in the control group.
Dramatic Natural Improvements are seen in endocrine hormone levels, in fertility, and in Sexual Libido for men and women.
19. Sexual Function:
Improves Libido and Quality of Life in Men & Women, Fights infertility, Increases Sperm Count, Increases Sperm Survival.
(1) Research on animal studies shows cordyceps increases natural sex hormones(Wan F, Guo Y, Deng X. Chinese Traditional Patented Med 1988;9:29-31)
(2) Prevention and improvement of adrenal glands and thymus hormones, and infertile sperm count improve by 300% after cordyceps supplement.(Huang Y, Lu J, Zhu B, Wen Q, Jia F, Zeng S, Chen T, Li Y, Xheng G, Yi Z.. Zhongchengyao Yanjiu 1987;(10):24-25)
(3) Human clinical studies involving both men and women of 189 patients with decreased libido and desire showed improvement of symptoms and desire of 66% (Wan F, Guo Y, Deng X. Chinese Traditional Patented Med 1988;9:29-31) and
(4) Another double blind study by the Institute of Materia Medica in Beijing, China showed a woman improvement of libido and desire at 86%. (JIA-SHI ZHU, M.D., Ph.D. The Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine, Vol.4, Number 3, 1998, pp.289-303)
(5) The most dramatic physical proof came from Fertility Study (Guo YZ. J Modern Diagnostics Therapeutics 1986;(1):60-65) involving a clinical research of 22 males showed that cordyceps supplement increased clear evidence of 33% increase in sperm count, decreased 29% incidence of sperm malformations, and a 79% increase in survival rate after 8 weeks of cordyceps supplement.
20.Immune Functions:
Numerous animal and in vitro studies have shown that Cordyceps sinensis fruit body and mycelial extracts are potent immunopotentiators. Cultured fruit bodies of
Cordyceps sinensis prepared as a water extract produced a significant increase in the phagocytic activity of Kupffer cells after oral administration in rats for 25 days, but not after two days. The increase compared to control rats was seen in a 36% greater colloidal carbon clearance value from a dosage of 200 mg/kg p.o., whereas half the amount was ineffective (Nakamura et al., 1999). A water extract of cultured Cordyceps sinensis (100 ug/mL) was shown to dose-dependently reverse murine renal cell neoplasm-induced suppression of murine macrophage (J774A.1 cell line) oxidative burst (chemoluminescent), following co-incubation of the Cordyceps sinensis extract with the tumor cells. At 8 hours co-incubation, the activity of the macrophages was significantly enhanced (Jiao and Lau, 1998).
Administration and Application Guide:
How much is usually taken?
The recommended intake of cordyceps is 3 to 9 grams taken twice daily as a liquid extract, as food, or as powdered extract.
Dosage 2-4 or 5~10 grams per day of cordyceps sinensis has been associated with increased energy levels, reduced fatigue and an enhanced ability to use oxygen.

Cordyceps Sinensis is a well known and important ingredient in Chinesemedicine. It is very widely used both in clinical medicine and as a householdremedy. In the Compedium of Materia Medica, the great classicof Chinese medicine, Cordyceps is described in detail and is consideredpotent at strengthening lung and kidneys, increasing energy and vitality, stopping hemorrhage, decreasing phlegm, and as an overall tonic. However, as the sourcing and gathering of the herb is rare and difficult, so its supply often falls short of demand.
Single herb is prohibited for yin deficiency and fire Hyperactivity, hemoptysis due to lung heat; and the patient who has heat in the exterior excess, anger, disharmony with liver qi and heat extreme in the blood phase are prohibited to use.
Safety Profile:
Toxicity in Animal Models Strain Cs-B414 produced an LD50 in mice of 27.26+-4.38 g/kg i.p. The p.o. tolerance dose was 252.5~300 g/kg.
No significant hematological toxicity was found in rabbits administered Cs-B414 at a dosage of 10 g/kg/day p.o. for 3 months. Neither kidney, liver, nor major organs showed significant toxicity compared to placebo-fed rabbits (Huang et al., 1987).
A 3-month, placebo-controlled, subacute toxicity study in both sexes of rats found the Cs-4 strain caused no toxicity or deaths at a dosage of 3 g/kg p.o. A 30-day, placebo-controlled toxicity study in mice found no signs of toxicity and no deaths from Cs-4. In both studies, organ weights and peripheral blood cells were not significantly different from those of the controls (Zhu et al., 1998a).

Story and Experience:
In 1993 Chinese women distance runners won six of nine medals at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany in the 1,500, 3,000 and 10,000 meter races. They were suspected of steroid use and were tested. The results were negative.
According to their coach, Ma Junren, they had been running 25 miles a day and had been using cordyceps mushrooms.
Mike Brown jokingly refers to these as "biceps mushrooms."
Here are some examples of what cordyceps mushrooms did for people we used as "guinea pigs."
A man, age 35, told us that after taking the cordyceps mushrooms he actually felt like getting up in the morning for the first time in years. This same man was usually huffing and puffing after 20 reps in the squat. After taking the cordyceps mushrooms for several weeks, he finished doing 20 reps with 270. His two training partners told him, "You're not even breathing hard!"
They insisted he put 315 on the bar. With that weight he could do 20 more reps.
A woman, age 37, who is a marathon runner, cut 2 minutes off her usual 50-minute morning run.
A woman, age 54, found doing full extention leg lifts with 20 reps and assisted chin ups using her usual setting much easier.
Not just any mushroom is going to have this effect. There are 80,000 known species of mushrooms. That is only 5% of what is actually out there.
If you would like to try cordyceps mushroom (extract) for your training program, you can order below.
How to take powdered cordyceps mushroom extract: Once a day put one teaspoon in a glass. Add a small amount of water (enough to moisten the powder). Then add juice or other liquid to drink with the mushroom mixture.
A 4-ounce bag contains enough cordyceps mushroom powder for over one month.
