Tribulus and Its Famous Effects Applications.
1.Overcoming Impotence and Infertility:
Research conducted throughout the 1980s has concluded that Tribulus extract may be of benefit to men troubled by impotence (an inability to achieve or maintain an erection satisfactory for enjoyment of sex), a low libido and poor sperm quality. This last problem relates to inadequate sperm count and/or poor sperm motility (a sperm's 'liveliness' and swimming ability). Although the exact mode of action is not yet fully understood, it has been proven that Tribulus can increase the amount of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) produced by the body's pituitary gland. LH stimulates the testes to secrete the male hormone Testosterone.
Studies in Bulgaria involving 212 men with conditions including impotence, hypogonadism (decreased function of the testes) and sperm deficiency revealed that Tribulus extract can significantly improve the quantity and quality of sperm. Men treated with Tribulus produced semen with a greater number of sperm and a higher percentage of motile sperm that swam faster and further. Men who had previously been unable to achieve an erection and men with a low libido also showed significant improvement.
It should be noted that sperm needs 80 days to reach maturity, so researchers recommend that men hoping for improved sperm quality take Tribulus for at least this length of time.
A natural aid to relieve impotence, low libido and male infertility
May improve the quality and quantity of sperm
Assists athletes in building muscle mass and strength
Safe to use and non-hormonal
After centuries of use in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, modern research is backing up the claim that the Tribulus terrestris herb may have the power to restore a man's virility while making a more muscular appearance easier to achieve.
2.Building Bigger,Stronger Muscles:Physical Performance:
The second string to the Tribulus bow was actually the first discovered. For many years now, Bulgarian strength athletes have been taking Tribulus extract in an effort to increase the strength of their muscles. Once again, the results are due to the role of Tribulus in increasing the production of luteinizing hormone, thereby stimulating the secretion of testosterone. It is commonly known that testosterone improves the body's ability to build muscle mass and strength. That's why synthetic testosterone supplements (in the form of anabolic steroids) are used. However, it should be plainly understood that Tribulus is not a hormone supplement. By promoting the production of the body's own hormones, it works only within the body's natural limits to help men achieve their strength and muscular potential. Tribulus will not cause the body to indefinitely produce more and more of any hormone, but rather it balances natural hormone levels.
As with any sports supplement, Tribulus is no quick fix. It will only help to improve strength in conjunction with an exercise programme that places the muscles under strain and then allows them to recover.
Fame of body building circles:
Tribulus is gaining more and more fame around the body building circles for its testosterone boosting capibilities. Tribulus is being used to increase lean muscle mass and significantly boost your sex drive. Lab Studies useing tribulus on animals have shown that in less then thirty days the animals had increased musculature and significant increases in sperm count.
If you are looking to boost your testosterone then tribulus is one of your most compelling options. If you take a tribulus based product you should start to notice an increase in sex drive with in two weeks. The muscle enhancement produced from tribulus should start to take place around the 3 week. After the third week you should notice a leaning out and hardening of your muscles. Tribulus is usually used in a cycling pattern. A good cycling pattern for a tribulus product is 5 days on 2 days off or 4 weeks on 2 weeks off.
Anecdotal reports and claims by manufacturers suggest that Tribulus elevates plasma testosterone concentrations, which would theoretically enhance muscle protein accretion, increase muscle mass and improve athletic performance.
There is no peer-reviewed scientific evidence demonstrating that Tribulus elevates testosterone concentrations in the blood or enhances physical performance.
In a recent randomized, placebo-controlled study, daily supplementation with 3.21 mg/kg body weight of a T. terrestris extract (45 % saponins) for 8 weeks did not enhance body composition or exercise performance in 15 resistance-trained male subjects. In another recent study, Tribulus was ineffective in elevating plasma testosterone levels or enhancing performance, even when combined with the testosterone precursors androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).
Tribulus Terrestris improves muscle growth and body strength, enhance libido sexualis and erectile function, increase the number and motility of spermatozoa, increase the body's natural testosterone and LH levels, helps in alleviating some symptoms associated with male menopause
3.Natural Testosterone Boosting Herb:
One of the most well-known properties of tribulus is as an aphrodisiac, and as a putative testosterone elevator. Tribulus does increase sexual function in animal models, and also reportedly improves libido in humans. However, this is not necessarily indicative of a testosterone increasing effect, there are other possible reasons, such as the hypotensive effect of tribulus. There is limited information regarding the effect tribulus ultimately has on testosterone levels. Translated Bulgarian research indicates that tribulus increased testosterone and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in depressed men who were part of infertile couples. When protodioscin is administered to castrated rats, it increases levels of testosterone, LH, DHEA, and adjustment of DHT.
Tribulus terrestris is a testosterone enhancer. Studies show that it works very well when stacked with DHEA and androstenedione. It increased testosterone levels in a different way, however, than either DHEA or andro do. Instead of being a testosterone precursor, it leads to the production of the luteinizing hormone (LH). When LH levels are increased, the natural production of testosterone also increases. LH is a hormone that also deals with sex drive. Now one can understand why it has been used to increase fertility and help with impotence. Laboratory animal studies found that Tribulus terrestris increased sperm count as well as motility levels after taking it for 30 days.
Tribulus is used for its testosterone boosting properties more than anything else. Studies have shown over 50% increase in testosterone levels when taking Tribulus Terresteris. We all know testosterone helps build muscle and strength, that's why some pro athletes use steroids and other prohormones to enhance performance.
You'll be happy to hear that Tribulus Terrestris is NOT a hormone! It works completely different from Andro and DHEA. Tribulus increases testosterone through increasing lutenizing hormone (LH) in your body. LH tells your body to produce testosterone. Why is this beneficial? Simply because Tribulus is not a hormone supplement, it merely works within the body's natural limits helping you achieve muscle and strength.
Much tribulus research and studies have been conducted, and all have shown positive benefits of supplementing Tribulus Terrestris, and almost no adverse effects. Here are some findings on Tribulus supplementation:
A study done with healthy individuals taking 750mg of tribulus per day showed a 72% LH increase, and a 41% increase in testosterone.
In a study conducted with 20 males and females, 75% of the participants had increased endurance, 80% had increased libido and sexual performance, and 95% of the females reported no PMS symptoms.
A study conducted with 200 males suffering from impotence showed increase in LH and testosterone levels after supplementing Tribulus. The study also found a increase in sperm production.
Tribulus Terrestris is an herb grown in various parts of the world and used medicinally for it's virilizing effects. The leaflets are less than a quarter-inch long. The whole plant is a taprooted annual about three to thirty inches across. The quarter-inch-wide flowers of clear lemon yellow are pretty to see on the flat little patches of puncture vine. A week later, the flowers are followed by very hard sharp "seeds" (actually, each one is a single-seeded wedge of the intact fruit). "Tribulus" is Latin for "trouble." The spiny propagules of Tribulus are less than a quarter-inch point-to-point.
Studies have shown a better than 50% increase in testosterone levels when taking the Tribulus Terrestris herb. Its pathway for increasing testosterone differs from both Androstenedione 100 and DHEA. Tribulus exerts its testosterone elevating effect through the increase in luteinizing hormone (LH). LH is responsible for "telling" your body to produce testosterone. One interesting fact: Steroids suppress LH, thus reducing and sometimes shutting down your body's production of testosterone.
4.Supports Reproductive Function: Tribulus is a sexual tonic:
Tribulus terrestris is a tropical vine common in sandy soil throughout India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Source Naturals Tribulus contains over 40% furostanol saponins, the active component. This south Asian herb is popular for its potential role in supporting reproductive function. Tribulus can be used by both men and women.
Recently Tribulus has gained a reputation amongst body-builders as an alternative to anabolic steroids. Tribulus has been a popular herb in folk medicine in Eastern Europe, particularly in Bulgaria where it used in the treatment of sexual problems.
Now modern science has confirmed that Tribulus can restore and improve libido in men, improve and prolong the duration of an erection, increase the level of testosterone, improve the sperm count and improve the motility of the sperm. In fact, some men with a sperm count of zero (a complete lack of spermatozoa) have had their levels restored to normal.
Tribulus contains compounds known as steroidal saponins, which are thought to exert a hormonal-like effect in the human body. An experiment carried out on healthy men aged between 28 and 45 showed that Tribulus raises levels of luteinising hormone and testosterone. It is the ability of Tribulus to affect the body's own production of these hormones that is responsible for the stimulating activities of the herb in regard to sexual function.
As a tonic herb it nourishes the shukradhatu- it increases virility, fertility, sperm production and lactation. It rejuvenates the reproductive system- especially the uterus and the gonads. Used in infertility and impotence.
5.Male and female hormonal system:
Tribulus has been used for centuries in Europe for hormone insufficiency in men and women. Research is indicating that Tribulus may increase the body's production of testosterone in men through increased secretion of luteinising hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland. It is also speculated that in women, Tribulus may increase the hormones oestrodiol, LH, and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Tribulus may also slightly influence testosterone in women. Tribulus is thought to stimulate hormones to a balanced level, improving libido, reproductive function and ovulation, without causing over stimulation.
In China, Tribulus has traditionally been used to improve sexual desire and sexual performance in male impotence. It is also thought to stimulate sperm production and increase the quality, motility and survival time of sperm.
6.Stamina and Endurance:
Tribulus is thought to have a naturally similar action to that of anabolic hormones:
For athletes and body builders, Tribulus may increase testosterone and oestrodial levels, promoting faster recuperation and recovery from muscular stress. It is believed to have a positive effect on strength and stamina.
It is also thought to increase muscle growth, however research has not yet substantiated this theory.
Tribulus may benefit the cardiovascular system. It is thought to improve conditions such as angina, high blood pressure and myocardial ischaemia. Tribulus is also thought to be of benefit for high cholesterol. This may be due to its action on the liver.
Tribulus is believed to stimulate the liver and improve the breakdown of fats. It is thought to stimulate bile flow and synthesise hormones from cholesterol (the liver is a major processor of hormones). Through its strong action on the liver, Tribulus may lower cholesterol, blood pressure, regulate bowel patterns and increase stamina and endurance. It may also improve protein metabolism and energy production.
This role of improving liver function, stamina and endurance is particularly beneficial to athletes and bodybuilders. The increase in testosterone levels by Tribulus will promote protein synthesis, positive nitrogen balance as well as faster recuperation and recovery from muscular stress. Tribulus therefore has a positive effect on strength and stamina.
Tribulus may also reduce and aid in the prevention of kidney stones. It has traditionally been used for the general health of the genitourinary system. Tribulus has been used in cystitis, renal calculi (kidney stones), incontinence, gout and impotence. Tribulus may also have a mild diuretic action.
Bladder or kidney infections, stones pain, retention, cloudy, bleeding. It soothes the urinary tract membranes and promotes urination. Specific for prostate problems, urinary retention or obstructed urinary flow.
Urinary: An ethanolic extract of the fruits of Tribulus terrestris showed significant dose dependent protection against uroliths induced by glass bead implantation in albino rats. The extract provided significant protection against deposition of calculogenic material around the glass bead, and also protected leucocytosis and elevation in serum urea levels (Anand et al 1994).
The aqueous extract of T. terrestris, in oral dose of 5g/kg elicited a positive diuresis, which was slightly more than that of furosemide. Z. mays aqueous extract did not result in significant diuresis when given alone in oral dose of 5g/kg, while combination of Z. mays and T. terrestris extracts produced the same extent of diuresis as that produced by T.terrestris alone. Na(+), K(+) and Cl(+) concentrations in the urine had also much increased. T. terrestris has long been used empirically to propel urinary stones.
11.Nerve Protection:Cured Depression:
Useful in all aggravations of the nervous system and vata. It draws all three dosha downwards- headaches, hives, itchy skin, eye inflammations.
Consumer Review: Using DHEA And Tribulus Cured My Depression.
Consumer have been taking DHEA and Tribulus as a workout supplements for about 1 month and have noticed that mood has greatly improved. Several years ago was diagnosed with "Chronic Long Term Depression" and was prescribed Prozac. Well, the Prozac caused some very unwanted side effects (impotence in a 20 year old!) so I stopped taking it. Before taking the DHEA/Tribulus, I would usually get depressed for a few days every other month or so, and I would be unhappy most of the time. Since I started taking the DHEA/Tribulus I have felt better than I have ever felt. I'm confident, happy and my strength has also improved. I plan on cycling DHEA/Tribulus 6 weeks on 2 weeks off to see if the effect continues when I'm off. Does anyone else have a similar story?
Response #1:Tribulus is found to have a mood enhancing effect as reported in some findings. This might explain why it helps to alleviate some of the symptoms you might feel when depression occurs.
Response #2:The reason your depression is better is because a low level of testosterone causes depression, low energy, muscle weakness, and weak bones. Tribulus may increase testosterone. You should go to a doctor and have a blood test for testosterone level. You can get testosterone patches to wear now. Hope this has helped.
A liopihilized saponin extract of dried and powdered Tribulus terrestris caused a significant decrease in peristaltic movements of isolated sheep ureter and rabbit jejunum preparations in a dose-dependent manner. The same extract had no effect on isolated rabbit aorta and its contractile response to KCl or noradrenaline (Arcasoy et al. 1998).
The methanol extract of the aerial parts of Tribulus cistoides was found to contain nine steroid saponins, among them the cardioactive cistocardin. (Achenbach et al. 1994). The results of a clinical trial in 406 cases of coronary heart disease treated with the saponin fraction of Tribulus terrestris resulted in the remission of 82.3% of the cases. The saponin fraction of Tribulus terrestris dilates the coronary artery and improves coronary circulation. No adverse affects were noted (Wang et al. 1990).
Tribulusamides A and B isolated from the fruits of Tribulus terrestris prevented cell death in cultured mouse hepatocytes induced by D-galactosamine (D-GalN)/tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) (Li et al 1998).
Mutra virechana- diuretic, Mutrakricchraghna- dispels dysuria, Ashmarihara- lithotriptic, Vrishya- increases sexual appetite, Shukra shodhana- sperm purifier(Charaka, Sushruta, Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita, Bhavaprakasha)
Manufacturers of Tribulus products claim that Tribulus may enhance sexual function and increase energy. However, there is a lack of peer-reviewed scientific evidence to substantiate these claims.
Despite claims made by manufacturers and testimonials suggesting that Tribulus may enhance sexual function, there is insufficient peer-reviewed scientific evidence to confirm these claims.
Stamina, self-confidence and general well-being are all reported to improve with a Tribulus extract. Some research evidence suggests that the herb may also be useful for lowering cholesterol through its action on the liver. Tribulus terrestris is generally regarded as a safe and non-toxic herb. However it is important not to exceed the recommended dose, nor to take the herb for extended periods of time.
Whether your desire is to improve your chances of fathering a child, return your sex life to loftier heights or build a stronger, more masculine body, Tribulus may be of some benefit. Most importantly, Tribulus is a completely natural alternative to some conventional methods employed for increasing virility, fertility and masculinity.
