Nettle Pharmacology:Aromatase activity inhibition.

Nettle Extract INCI Name Urtica Dioica Extract EINECS ELINCS No 281-685-5 CAS 84012-40-8 Urticae radix Extracts Nettle Root Extract photo picture image Aromatase is a key enzyme in steroid hormone metabolism. It is responsible for the conversion of androgens into estrogens. Estrogens appear to be involved in the etiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Therefore, inhibition of aromatase could improve prostate disorder. Some constituents of the methanol extract of stinging nettle root demonstrated weak to moderate aromatase inhibition (inhibition was concentration-dependent) including the secondary fatty alcohol 14-octacosanol, two pentacyclic triterpenes (oleanolic and ursolic acid) and the fatty 13-hydroxy-9,11-octadecadienoic acid.
