 Cistanches: This important sex tonic has been used extensively throughout Chinese history.
 Property, taste and attributive meridian:Sweet and salty in taste, warm in property. Enters the kidney and large intestine meridians.

 Part Used and Method for Pharmaceutical Preparations: The fleshy stems are gathered in spring, dried in the sun and cut into slices.The scale-leaf-bearing fleshy stem of Cistanche deserticola Y. C. Ma.

 Sources:Cistanche deserticola grows in West China provinces such as Neimeng, Gansu, QinHai,Ningxia and Xinjiang. Collect in Spring.

 Harvest and Processing:Dig out and collect stems, usually in spring, before or when shoots just begin to come up above the ground; remove inflorescences; cut stems into sections; dry under the sun.

 Note:Herba Cistanchis is the whole herb of Orobanchaceae Family,Cistanche Genus, other names as Da Yun,Cong Rong, Cun Rong. CP2000 noted Cistanche deserticola which parasited on herb Haloxylon ammodendron root is the quality. The herb of same Genus named Cistanche tubulosa which parasited on root of Tamarix spp. species, and Cistanche salsa which parasited on root of Nitraria spp. and Salsola passerina also could be used as medicine.
