 Tang dynasty.Yin Hai Jing Wei noted: Rou Cong Rong "taste sour salty, warm character join kidney and nerve,tonic kidney and boost sperm."

 Song dynasty.Zheng Lei Ben Cao noted: "Rou Cong Rong taste sweet sour salyty and light warm, no toxic,main for five fatigue and seven wound, tonic inner and get rid of cold heart and pain from penis, maintain five internal organs, strong yin, increase spirit and sperm,...feel easy taken long."

 Song dynasty.Ben Cao Tu Jing noted: "West desert people eat it regularly, scrape the scute, clean with drink and wash out black juice, cut thin pieces, boil thick soup combined with yam and mutton,taste very fine,benefit man,take it more than invigorant."

 Ming dynasty.Ben Cao Gang Mu noted: "taste sweet,light warm, no toxic......benefit marrow,happy expression, extend age,great remedy for yang boost,daily intercourse double times, cure women emmeniopathy. male yang hopeless and erection dysfunction, female yin hopeless and no pregnant, tonify five internal organs, boost muscle,warm waist and knee,cure spermatorrhea and cramp."

 Ming dynasty.Ben Cao Jing Shu noted: "Rou Cong Rong,it is really the key medicine for tonify kidney,boost sperm and lifeblood."

 Ming dynasty.Ben Cao Hui Yan noted: "Rou cong Rong,support life gate,tonify kidney qi,key medicine of boosting sperm and lifeblood. Good for treatment of weak and cold DanYuan of man with weak Yang Tao, women irregular menstrual flow,and this is smooth remedy,warm but not heat, tonify but not steep, warm but not hot, smooth and but not discharge, so named Cong Rong."

 Manchu Colonization Period.Ben Jing Feng Yuan noted: "taste light salty warm no toxic, main for five fatigue and seven wound, tonify body strong yin, increase sperm."
