Safety and Administrations of Xanthoparmelia Scabrosa(X-Scabrosa).
There is no RDA for common dose of xanthoparmelia scabrosa, over volume and big dose will cause toxic effects.
Xanthoparmelia Caution:
Study regarding xanthoparmelia scabrosa and it concerns me since there may be toxins in this lichen, but at the same time these toxins are able to kill cancer cells.
Do not use xanthoparmelia scabrosa or formulas composed of it if you are at risk or are being treated for high blood pressure, kidney, thyroid, or psychiatric disease, anxiety, depression, seizure disorder or stroke. Consult your physician before using if you are taking MAO-Inhibitors or any other prescription drug. Not for use by persons under the age of 18. Keep out of reach of children.
The herb Xanthoparmelia scabrosa, found in several male sexual enhancement products sold as Viagra alternatives targeted to health food stores and marketed on the Internet, has been shown to contain a toxic ester.
Jim Lewis, president of National Nutritional Foods Association-Midwest Region (NNFA-MW) is calling on all dietary supplement suppliers and natural products retailers to investigate the products in their inventories that may contain the herb Xanthoparmelia scabrosa, and to seek legal advice to determine if they should continue to sell these products.
As the market for male sexual health supplements continues its popularity among consumers, it is imperative to police ourselves and ensure that safe products are offered,Research on the herb Xanthoparmelia scabrosa has clearly demonstrated toxicity in specific low doses. To prevent another ephedra fiasco, it makes sense to respond accordingly to the science when that research demonstrates possible harm or adverse reactions.
According to Lewis, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) know this herb is toxic. Xanthoparmelia scabrosa has been researched since 1978, with additional discoveries on its potent cytotoxic properties first revealed in 1996.
Acute Oarl Toxicity Test in Rats:
The test for confirming the toxicity of the compounds of acid additive salts of pyrazolopyrimidinone derivatives carried out as follows.
In this test six-week old SPF SD rats were used, and two rats were assigned to each group. The compounds of acid additive salts of pyrazolopyrimidinone derivatives were suspended in 0.5% methyl cellulose respectively, and administered orally with single dose of 1 g/kg using a ball-tipped needle. The dosing volume was 10 ml/kg. After the administration, the animals were observed for clinical signs of toxicity or mortality and the body weight changes were measured. All survivors at the end of the observation period underwent laparotomy under ether anesthesia and the blood samples were taken from the abdominal aorta for hematological tests and biochemical analysis.
After sacrificing the animals, autopsy was performed for macroscopic observation of the organs and tissues. Tissue samples of vital organs from macroscopic legion were removed and fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin solution, then processed by standard procedures for histopathology and examined with light microscope. There were no significant clinical symptoms, body weight changes and mortalities. Also in hematology, serum chemistry parameters and macroscopic observation, no drug-related changes were observed. As are sult all the compounds tested did not show toxicity in rats up to 1 g/kg, and the lethal dose (LD50) of oral administration was determined to be over 1 g/kg in rats.
