Botanical: Prunus persica (Prunus Persica L.)
Synonyms:Amygdalis Persica (Linn.). Persica vulgaris Null.
Parts Used:Bark,fruit,flower,leaves.
Where to find it: Cultivated in warm countries, but thought to be originally from China. It is not found growing wild.
Flowering time: Spring. The fruit ripens in autumn.

Modern uses:The leaves are laxative, sedative and expectorant. An infusion is often used with success against whooping cough. The leaves or powdered bark are excellent for inflammatory bowel disease and gastritis. Use i oz (28 g) of the leaves of 1/2 oz (14 g) of the bark to 1 Pt (568 rni) of boiling water and take in doses of up to 2 fl oz (56 mi). The same is also good for cystitis and tenderness of the bladder, because it stimulates the urine flow but is soothing. An oil expressed from the kernels is similar to Almond oil.
