Vitex.Chaste Berry Extract INCI Name Vitex Agnus Castus Extract Vitex Berry Extract Chaste Tree Berry Extract VITEX-CHASTE BERRY photo picture image Vitex should be used with caution by those who are weak or anemic.

 Side effects of using vitex are rare. Minor gastrointestinal upset and a mild skin rash with itching have been reported in less than 2% of the women monitored while taking vitex. Vitex is not recommended for use during pregnancy

 Be sure to tell your pharmacist, doctor, or other health care providers about any dietary supplements you are taking. There may be a potential for interactions or side effects.

 General:This dietary supplement is considered safe when used in accordance with proper dosing guidelines.

 Side Effects of Chasteberry:

 Side effects are possible with any dietary supplement. This dietary supplement may cause minor side effects such as stomach upset or rash in rare instances.Tell your doctor if these side effects become severe or do not go away.

 Pregnancy/Breast-Feeding:

 This dietary supplement should be used with caution in women of child-bearing age and should not be used by pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant.Animal studies have shown that some of the active compounds in chasteberry may prevent implantation of an embryo.
 This dietary supplement should not be used if you are breast-feeding an infant without first consulting a physician.

 For women who are trying to get pregnant, vitex may be helpful to help regulate the ovulatory cycle. It may be taken throughout the end of the third month of pregnancy, which may help prevent miscarriage, according to German research. After the third month it is still safe to take but is not recommended, because it may bring on the flow of milk too early.

 Age Limitations: To date, the medical literature has not reported any adverse effects specifically related to the use of this dietary supplement in children. Since young children may have undiagnosed allergies or medical conditions, this dietary supplement should not be used in children under 10 years of age unless recommended by a physician.

 Drug Interactions:

 Chaste tree preparations (dried berries or VACE) may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Alteration of anterior pituitary and ovarian hormone levels by chaste tree products may affect the outcome of hormonal therapy for female infertility.

 Interactions with hormone replacement therapy (potential/theoretical). Animal studies and human data have reported that chasteberry constituents have hormonal activity that may alter the effects of these medications and possibly the dose needed for treatment. conjugated estrogens, estradiol, estrone, esterified estrogens, estropipate, ethinyl estradiol, progesterone, medroxyprogesterone, hydroxyprogesterone, norethindrone.

 Interactions with oral contraceptives (potential/theoretical). Animal studies and human data have reported that chasteberry constituents have hormonal activity that may alter the effects of these medications and possibly the dose needed for treatment: norethindrone, ethynodiol diacetate, norgestrel, norgestimate, ethinyl estradiol, drospirenone, desogestrel, levonorgestrel .

 Interactions with dopamine agonists (potential/theoretical). An in-vitro study reported that chasteberry constituents had dopaminergic activity that may alter the effects of these medications and possibly the dose needed for treatment: selegeline, amantadine, carbidopa, levadopa, pramipexole, ropinirole, bromocriptine, pergolide. If you are taking any of these medication, it's a good idea to consult with your physician before taking vitex.
