In the TCM system,the herb Herba Menthae(Mentha Leaf,Wild Mint,Bo He) used for various ailments and indicated for different cases of health problems and disease:anemopyretic cold(wind-heat type common cold),affection of exogenous wind-heat,wind-heat exterior syndrome,wind-warm syndrome initial stage,cephalea(cephalalgia,headache),red eyes,swelling and pain in throat,pharyngitis,aphtha,indigestion flatulence,nettle rash(urticaria),measles,measles without adequate eruption,dentalgia(toothache,dentagra),rash itching,scabies,chest and hypochondrium swelling,liver-depressed hypochondrium pain,urticaria.

At North America,the herb Peppermint(Mentha x piperta L) normally suggested for ingigestion,sore throat,nausea,colds,cancers,gas,and cramplike stomach and intestinal discomforts,to counter motion sickness,congestion,headache,heartburn,fever,and sleeplessness,antispasmodic,laxatives,bile-duct remedies,bile-stimulating formulations,tension and weariness,inflammation and itching,popular as flavoring,digestion regulator,gas remedy,antiseptic and local anesthetic agent,cold,cough preparations,insect bites,hemorrhoids,toothaches,and musculoskeletal pain,irritable bowel syndrome,lotions,aromatic mists,and aromatherapy formulations.

Most adults can drink peppermint tea regularly without worrying about an adverse reaction;the relative concentration of menthol in peppermint tea is actually quite low.Most peppermint-related complaints occur when there are high concentrations of menthol or menthone in the preparation,or when products made with high concentrations of the oil,such as menthol cigarettes,are used.Take care in giving infants or small children peppermint tea or any preparations of peppermint oil.They may be startled or even gag or choke because of the intense fragrance and the menthol.

Warning:Never ingest pure menthal;it is poisonous and as little as teaspoonfull(1 grams per kilogram of body weight) can be fatal.
