 1. Dispersing wind-heat from the superficies: For treating cold due to wind-heat or seasonal febrile disease at the beginning stage and accompanied by the exterior syndrome, it is often combined with Herba Menthae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Gypsum Fibrosum, etc. for treating sore throat accompanied with hoarse voice due to wind-heat, it can be used as a single medicine or may be combined with Semen Sterculiae Scaphigerae; or nocturnal crying with restlessness, etc. with Ramulus Uncariae cum Uncis, Medulla Funci, Herba Menthae, etc.

 2. Promoting eruption and relieving itching: At the beginning stage of measles with retardation of eruption, it may be with Radix Puerariae, Fructus Arctii, Herba Menthae, Fructus Forsythiae.

 3. Resolving nebula and brightening the eyes: For treating blood-shot eyes due to wind-heat, or nebula with poor vision, it is often combined with Flos Chrysanthemi, Flos Eriocauli, etc.

 4. Dispelling evil wind and relieving pain: For treating tetanus marked by lockjaw, opisthotonus, it is often combined with Rhizoma Gastrodiae, Scorpic and other drug for dispelling wind and relieving convulsion; for treating infantile convulsion with fever, with Ramulus Uncariae aum Uncis, Radix Scutellariae, Cornu Antelopis, etc.
