Strengthens nervous system relaxing tension: Verbena strengthens the nervous system whilst relaxing tension and stress. Galactagogue and emmenagogue action: The glycosides also have a reputed galactagogue and emmenagogue action, and the Chinese use Verbena to treat migraines associated with female sex hormone fluctuations. The galactagogue properties are attributed to aucubin. A luteinising action has been reported, and attributed to inhibition of the gonadotrophic action of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Verbena has been documented to possess weak parasympathetic properties, causing slight contraction of the uterus, and verbenalin exhibits uterine stimulant activity.
Glandular secretions action: Verbena is used on the Continent for liver conditions, jaundice and gallstones, and as a gentle but effective laxative. It is a traditional remedy for infected gums and tooth decay, halitosis and tonsillitis. This is supported by the discovery that the glycoside verbenin has a direct effect on glandular secretions, suggesting an effect on the production of saliva.

Diphtheria Treatment.: Methods:take Verbena officinalis (whole grass) 30 g, concentrated decoction to 300 ml around. 150 ml serving for adult 2 times daily,2 times daily for children 8-14 years old,100 mls each dose, 8-year-old and below 50 ml dose 3 to 4 times daily, continues for 3~5 days. For diphtheria 50 cases, all cured, the average cooling time after taking is 15.3 hours, fake film disappear time 2.2 hours, pharyngeal swab culture overcast time of 2 to 4 days, the average length of stay of 4 to 6 days.
Infectious hepatitis Treatment.: Methods: Verbena officinalis 500 g made decoction 800 ml, adults 40-50 ml, children 20-30 ml, daily three times, a total of 80 cases. A decoction of 2 OZ. to a quart, taken in the course of one day, is said to be a good medicine in purgings, easing pain in the bowels. It is often applied externally for piles. It is used in homoeopathy.
