Dried up until winter,grow up next spring.Bloom in March,as Gardenia yellow, no fruit.Rhizoma single rooted and erect,short redicel attached, root colored yellow to white,out skin colored brown,dig out at Feb or Aug and dry in the sun."

 Li Shi Zhen noted:"...Stalk four to five inch during April to May,bloom small flower deep yellow..."Ben Cao Gang Mu noted:"Xian Mao warm character,its the herb for tonifying 3 jiao and life fire,only fit for people with weak Yang and spirit cold,fearsome character.For person with strong Yang fire inside,take it and drive fire."

 Ben Cao Zheng Yi noted:Xian Mao is special herb for Yang tonifying and kidney warm,so it can be apply to drive away coldness and wet,similar as Ba Ji Tian and xian Ling Pi(Epimedium leaf),but its potency stronger than the two.

 Ben Cao Xin Bian noted:"For the poison of rhizoma cucurligo,detoxify with a piece of Rheum root,no need more Rheum.this herb people of today used a lot and prefer it,for the cause Ben Cao noted it could be apply for help Yang,but completely could not exciting Yang.for the cause that xian mao character warm,and enter kidney,drive away coldness,prevent old ejacution,how can it be such if not help Yang.But i think the reason it not all support or exciting Yang,for the character and property of Rhizoma cucurliginis,bbig different than Fu Zi,Rou Gui,xian mao warm,but no exciting property,good at hold jing,but short at fire,hold jing then no ejacution,stop exciting then Qi no out going,the one have no sons would have one.I got its reasons clear,to guide the folks would like to close his jing,apply xian mao to hold his jing,but for others with Yang weak fatigue and erection dysfunction,better not use xian mao from the saying of Yang helping property,and complaint no good result from xian mao for this purpose accordingly.

 Leaf spear like,from legend it says Ge Xian Wen left his pills on Da Yu Ling and thus grows out such a herb,so it named as Xian Mao,another saying this herb make body feels light and longevity,thus name it Xian.Hai Yoa Ben Cao noted,"Jiu Fu Qing Shen,Yi Yan Se.Ye Si Mao,Gu Yue Xian Mao.(light bidy after long period taken,benefit appearance.leaf spear like,thus name xian mao)";another classical Ben Cao Tu Jing noted,"It root grows single,firstly Brahman Monk of west devoted to Xuan Zong emperor of Tang dynasty,thus called as Brahman Ginseng in south,means its function and tonifying properties similar as our panax ginseng."
