Preface:Lack of Energy and Attack from CFS
Lack of Energy: Energy loss is defined in a number of ways. Exhaustion, lethargy, tiredness, weariness, listlessness, lassitude and fatigue are just some of the terms in common usage. All these refer to a state where the body runs out of steam. You may lack vitality, feel drowsy, lack general interest and concentration and remain inactive.
Attack from Stress and Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS):
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a disease that was first named in the 1980s. Although it is not a new disease, and has been referred to by other names since the 1700s, it still remains the subject of a great deal of controversy. Even now, as increasing numbers of people are being diagnosed with CFS, many people inside and outside the health professions still doubt its existence or maintain that it's a psychological ailment. But several years of research have confirmed that CFS is indeed a physical illness - just one that's not fully understood. An estimated half a million people in the United States have a CFS-like condition, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The hallmark symptoms of CFS are overwhelming fatigue and weakness that make it extremely difficult to perform routine and daily tasks, like getting out of bed, dressing, and eating. The fatigue does not get better with bed rest. The illness can severely affect school, work, and leisure activities, and cause physical and emotional symptoms that can last for months or even years.
Chronic fatigue syndrome is more common in females than males and it affects all racial and ethnic groups. CFS usually strikes people between the ages of 20 and 40, but it also occurs in teens. A CFS-like illness also has been determined to occur in children younger than 12. The actual number of children and teens affected by CFS is unknown but seems growing fast.
At any one time 1 in 10 people worldwide will feel tired or lethargic.
20% of the population suffer intense fatigue severe enough to interfere with their daily life.
1/4 to 1/2 of people visit their healthcare practitioner with low energy as a main symptom.
Around 40% of energy loss is caused by an underlying illness or disease.
We tend to think of our bodies as solid structures-consisting of bone, muscle, organs, and a network of arteries and veins through which our blood circulates. In reality, we could condense the solid matter in the human body to the size of a thimble. The rest is Space- Space within cells, Space between cells, Space between organs. Connecting and enlivening all these parts is the Energy that our Cells produce. It's what keeps us going. Without an adequate energy supply, our health suffers.
The ancient Chinese healers who devised acupuncture, a healing discipline that acts directly on the body's energy centers, recognized this thousands of years ago. So did the ancient Indian scientists and spiritual teachers who created yoga techniques to elevate prana, the Vedic word for life force. They understood that energy is our most precious human resource. But just like the energy that heats our homes and fuels our automobiles, the energy in our bodies is Finite. Our challenge is to learn to use it wisely while doing everything we can to make sure we don't run low.
Continually tapping our energy supply without replenishing it can lead to an imbalance that has a negative effect on our health and well-being. Until we learn to maintain balance between how much energy we burn and how much we store, we may be doing the best we can, but we won't be doing-or feeling-our best. That is why we people find ways from ancient so long and a natural explain the necessary of remedy inventions and other ways for this subject. So comes our Hercules series product related syndrome such as muscle fatigue and chronic fatigue.

Energy Source and Muscle Power:
The source of this energy?Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP):
The body's energiser, an organic compound present in muscle fibres that is broken down through a variety of enzymatic processes. The resultant spark of energy released stimulates hundreds of microscopic filaments within each cell, triggering muscle contraction. The organic compound found in muscle which, upon being broken down enzymatically, yields energy for muscle contraction.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a coenzyme of Vast Importance in the transfer of chemical energy derived from biochemical oxidations. Other nucleotides (formed from uracil, cytosine, guanine, and inosine) have also been found to act as coenzymes. For example, Uridine Triphosphate,a derivative of uracil, has been demonstrated to be of Great Importance in the metabolism of carbohydrates, as in the biosynthesis of glycogen and sucrose.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP),organic compound composed of adenine, the sugar ribose, and three phosphate groups. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) serves as the major energy source within the cell to drive a number of biological processes such as photosynthesis, muscle contraction, and the synthesis of proteins. It is broken down by hydrolysis to yield Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP), inorganic phosphorus, and energy. Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) can be further broken down to yield Adenosine Monophosphate (AMP), additional phosphorus, and More Energy. When the phosphorus and energy are immediately used to drive other reactions, such as the synthesis of Uridine Diphosphate (UDP), an RNA precursor, from Uridine Monophosphate (UMP), the pair of reactions are said to be coupled. New ATP is produced from AMP using the energy released from the breakdown of fuel molecules, such as fats and sugars.
Extracellularly, ATP has been found to act as a neurotransmitter. ATP Receptors are widespread through the body. On its own it is known to have effects in the arteries, intestines, lungs, and bladder. It is also often released in tandem with other neurotransmitters, perhaps to add chemical stability. See phosphorylation.
Now once your body has used Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) it quickly breaks down into two other compounds: Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) and inorganic phosphate. This breakdown is the cause of the increased energy.
When Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) breaks down into Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) and inorganic phosphate, energy is released. This energy is used to supply the muscle with the ability to achieve its goal. Once broken down, the Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) cannot be used in the same way as Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to provide energy. It is now useless.
You now understand how energy is created for use in the body. It's time to explain how Creatine can help increase your muscle power!
The majority of creatine stored in your muscles bonds with abundant phosphorus stores and is converted into Creatine Phosphate. Creatine Phosphate is able to react with the ADP in your body and turn "useless" ADP back into the "super useful" energy source - Adenosine triphosphate (ATP). More ATP in your body means more fuel for your muscles!
Creatine has also been shown to pull water into your muscle cells, which increases the size of your muscles. It has also been successful in protecting against lactic acid build up. Creatine bonds with Hydrogen ions to delay build up of lactic acid in the muscles. When there is an overproduction of lactic acid the muscles burn and are more prone to spasms and strains.
There is also some evidence that indicates Creatine improves the Anabolic state where protein synthesis occurs. Increased protein synthesis means a Greater Muscle gain!
Cells:The Body's Power Plants
Since every action, thought, and emotion-and especially stress- uses energy, you may be wondering exactly where all that energy comes from. Each cell produces its own energy supply via the mitochondria, microscopic structures that convert nutrients from food into energy. The cells store their energy in molecules called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and CP (creatine phosphate), which transport and release energy as necessary. If our bodies were cars, ATP and CP would be the fuel in those huge storage tanks that stand near refineries, in the trucks that fill the underground tanks at the local filling station-and in the hose that runs from the gas pump to the car.
The Instructions for producing ATP and CP are encoded in our DNA. When the mitochondria generate ample quantities of these molecules, the cells have an abundance of energy and are capable of fueling all the biological activities necessary to function optimally. But if for some reason the mitochondria can't keep up with the cells' energy demands, we're at risk for a cellular energy crisis.
Mitochondria Enemy and Energy Killer:Hypoxia,Oxygen Free Radicals.
Researchers have identified several factors that can impair mitochondria, thereby diminishing energy production. Among them is Hypoxia, a condition in which cells don't get enough oxygen to metabolize glucose and produce ATP and CP. Hypoxia can occur at high altitudes or can result from a reduced blood supply due to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), heart or lung disease, stroke, head injury, massive bleeding, or smoking. Actually, anything that inhibits the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells can set the stage for hypoxia. Incidentally, Rhodiola rosea helps protect against hypoxic damage and has been used to prevent altitude sickness.
Another factor that can compromise the energy-producing ability of mitochondria is Injury to DNA and cellular membranes. Oxygen Free Radicals are notorious for wreaking havoc on our bodies. But in fact these unstable molecules have the potential to do good or evil- helping to destroy infectious viruses and bacteria, or assaulting essential cellular components. The phrases oxidative stress and oxidative damage refer to the harm inflicted by oxygen free radicals on DNA and cell walls, as well as on proteins. As this damage accumulates, a cell's capacity to generate energy declines. This is considered to be a major contributor to cell death, tissue damage, and aging and age-related degenerative diseases.
Because brain cells run at a very high metabolic rate-making them the gas guzzlers of the body's energy consumers-they are especially vulnerable to oxidative damage and energy crises. When they don't have enough energy in the tank to keep running smoothly, it leads to a loss of neurons, or nerve cells. This, in turn, can accelerate brain aging and the onset of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
On the bright side, recent studies suggest that we can improve energy efficiency, reduce oxidative damage, and safeguard cells in the brain and central nervous system. The key is to increase our intakes of antioxidants and adaptogens such as Rhodiola rosea, along with making healthy changes in our diets. Rhodiola rosea boosts energy production and defends against oxidative damage. These actions are especially beneficial in improving mental performance and preventing the deterioration of nerve cells.
Muscle Energy Discovery:Breakdown of glycogen to glucose
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1992:Fischer and Krebs discovered how the breakdown of glycogen to glucose is controlled in the skeletal muscles, so that energy supply matches energy demand.
1. Acetylcholine is released from a motor nerve. This causes an entry of calcium into the muscle cell.
2. Calcium activates Phosphorylase Kinase - the first protein kinase discovered by Fischer and Krebs.
3. Phosphorylase kinase Phosphorylates Phosphorylase, which is activated
4. Glycogen is broken to glucose. This is used to generate ATP
5. The muscle works and requires energy in the form of ATP
6. The muscle contains muscle cells
7. Contractile proteins in the muscle are activated by calcium
Energy and Its fetter:Why we lost Energy?
Muscle fatigue and Muscle Disorder:
Holding your arms above your shoulders until they drop is one exercise that may be performed during the Tensilon test. In this test, the drug Tensilon is administered, and the response in the muscles are evaluated to help diagnose Myasthenia gravis or to help differentiate between myasthenia gravis and other conditions.
Muscle disorders or myopathies encompass a wide range of problems in which muscle does not work normally for one reason or another. Symptoms of muscle disease can be remarkably varied, ranging from profound weakness and respiratory difficulties to mild syndromes in which individuals experience symptoms only when doing strenuous exercise. Muscle fatigue, poor relaxation of muscles, or exercise-induced weakness can also occur in some of these syndromes. In some conditions, other systems can also be affected such as the heart, lungs and intestine. Patients may seek evaluation and treatment for a possible muscle disease if they develop weakness or other muscle symptoms or if a laboratory value (called the creatine kinase (CK) level) is found to be abnormal on routine blood testing.
The Stress-Energy Equation:
Stress occurs whenever our activity levels exceeds our energy levels, or whenever we perceive a threat to our well-being. Ever since Hans Selye's pioneering studies in the 1930s, we've learned a great deal about stress and about the harmful effects of stress hormones on every major organ and system in the body.
Unfortunately, we haven't learned nearly as much about energy. This is because in the past researchers focused exclusively on the stress response system, without examining its impact on the energy supply. More recent investigations have shown that the stress response system regulates the body's production, delivery, and utilization of energy. And because the stress response system itself runs on energy, it, too, can fall victim to chronic energy depletion.
The two main components of the stress response system are the Sympathetic Branch of the Autonomic Nervous System and the Hypo-Thalamic-Pituitary-adrenal (HPA) Axis.
The autonomic nervous system regulates the body's involuntary functions, including heart rate, blood pressure, the dilation and constriction of blood vessels, respiration, digestion, and the activity of smooth muscles. The two parts of the autonomic nervous system, known as the sympathetic branch and parasympathetic branch, balance each other. For example, the sympathetic branch is responsible for the release of epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine, hormones that accelerate heart rate and respiration. The parasympathetic branch has the opposite effect, slowing heart rate and respiration.
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis regulates the manufacture and release from the adrenal gland of hormones called glucocorticoids. Among them is cortisol, which influences many aspects of homeostasis-the state of equilibrium-throughout the body, including the storage and release of fuel, suppression of the immune system, and reproduction. The sympathetic nervous system and the HPA axis use many neuroendocrine pathways to communicate and coordinate their activities.
Selye found that whenever we're subjected to excessive physical or emotional stress, the sympathetic nervous system can trigger the body's fight-or-flight response, a complex chemical reaction that helps us to handle threatening situations. This remarkable "survival instinct" kicks in with the rapid release of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol-the stress hormones mentioned earlier. They stimulate our brains to be more alert while pumping more blood into our muscles and delivering the extra energy necessary to survive the immediate danger. (Actually, epinephrine and norepinephrine qualify as neurohormones. In other words, they act as both hormones and neurotransmitters, chemicals that enable nerve cells to communicate with each other.)
The elegantly designed stress response system is meant to be activated for relatively short periods of time, followed by longer intervals of recovery and healing. But when the crunch is ongoing and our bodies must endure prolonged high levels of stress, the epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol keep on pumping. In effect, the stress hormones that are essential for our short-term survival keep our bodies running on overdrive without allowing our cells to fully replenish their energy reserves or make critical repairs.
Until quite recently, doctors and scientists believed that all we needed to do to break the stress spiral is calm the sympathetic nervous system, primarily by avoiding overexposure to stressful situations. According to the latest research, this is only half of the equation. As following explains, the imbalance in the autonomic nervous system involves both overactivation of the sympathetic nervous system and underactivation of the parasympathetic nervous system. It is the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system that is responsible for healing and for replenishing our body's energy reserves. In order for it to do its job, we need regular intervals of recovery, during which the stress response system is not operating at warp speed.
How the Stress Response System Regulates Energy:
When the stress response system switches on, the body is preparing for an emergency. Just as a race car at the starting line uses more fuel when the driver revs the engine, our bodies burn more energy when we're getting ready to fight or flee. Our brain cells are activated for increased alertness and attention to danger, so they consume more energy. So do our hearts as they beat harder, our lungs as they pump faster, and our muscles as they contract.
The body stores fuel in the form of fatty acids and glucose, a simple sugar. To meet increased energy demands during times of stress, the stress hormones mobilize energy stores by stepping up several processes, including lipolysis (the release of fatty acids into the bloodstream as triglycerides), glycogenolysis (the release of glucose into the bloodstream), and protein catabolism (the breakdown of proteins). Then the stress hormones accelerate the delivery of these raw materials by elevating heart rate, which in turn increases bloodflow to critical areas, such as the brain and muscles.
Of course, with this higher rate of consumption, energy reserves won't last very long. But once we escape from or overcome a stressor, feedback mechanisms such as cortisol switch off the stress response system, allowing the body to replenish its energy supply. Still, if the state of emergency lasts for too long, it can set the stage for an energy crisis.
Energy Depletion and Free Radical Damage:
Simply put, constant activation of the stress response system can deplete the body's energy supply beyond its capacity to refuel. When individual cells do not have enough energy to maintain their vital functions, different parts of the system may become fatigued, strained, and eventually damaged. This may manifest itself as chest pain or heart attack, high blood pressure, stomach irritation or ulcer, reduced immunity, or another health problem, depending on individual vulnerabilities.
In addition, when cells metabolize nutrients-which is what occurs chemically when we burn energy-they also generate by-products, including oxygen free radicals. An oxygen free radical is the molecular form of oxygen, minus a crucial electron. We're constantly burning energy and releasing oxygen free radicals, even when we eat, or talk on the telephone, or go for a walk.
Oxygen free radicals are part and parcel of being alive. But when we're under chronic or recurrent stress, we burn more energy and produce even more oxygen free radicals than usual. If the concentration of these molecules exceeds the body's capacity to neutralize them, they begin to harm cells and-in cases of chronic stress-our tissues and organs, including our brains. Oxygen free radicals also damage mitochondria, the cellular components that produce energy, thereby reducing our capacity to maintain cellular energy levels.
The overproduction of oxygen free radicals could be compared to the dumping of chemical waste. When waste products accumulate faster than the environment can detoxify them, plant and animal life suffer.
Too Much Stress, Too Little Energy:
Before we can stop the stress cycle, we must understand the far-ranging consequences of excessive energy depletion without adequate energy renewal-which is what occurs when the stress response system remains in high gear for long periods of time. As we noted earlier, 80 percent of all medical illnesses are triggered or worsened by stress. Chronic overexposure to stress hormones is one of the ways in which prolonged stress can undermine our health. Over time, too-high levels of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol can lead to loss of muscle mass, decreased sensitivity to insulin (a risk factor for diabetes), high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, cardiovascular disease, poor tissue repair, and suppressed immunity- not to mention impotence in men and the cessation of menstruation in women.
Of course, each of us is born with particular genetic vulnerabilities-our own weak link or Achilles' heel-that get challenged whenever we're subjected to chronic stress. Some people are more prone to heart disease, while others are vulnerable to cancer. Yet regardless of our genetic inheritance, scientists are beginning to suspect that one pivotal factor in the development of heart disease, high blood pressure, and many other illnesses is overactivation of the sympathetic nervous system and underactivation of the parasympathetic nervous system.
What's more, a number of psychological conditions could point to an underlying stress/energy imbalance. For example, depression- which might be described as extreme, chronic activation of the stress response system-has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. In the United States alone, 16 percent of adults-or 35 million people- suffer from major depression severe enough to warrant treatment at some time in their lives. These numbers do not account for cases of chronic low-level or subsyndromal depression, which researchers believe to be far more widespread.
The stress/energy imbalance can affect virtually every bodily system by manifesting itself as a host of serious health problems, including the following:
Cardiovascular-high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, heart disease
Neurological-impaired memory, concentration, and cognitive function; migraines and headaches; Parkinson's disease; Alzheimer's disease and dementia; fibromyalgia; chronic fatigue syndrome
Gastrointestinal-ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease
Immunological-rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders; infections, including frequent colds, respiratory infections, and yeast infections; urinary disorders, such as frequent urges to urinate and pain upon urination; skin conditions; allergies; cancer
Endocrine/metabolic-hypoglycemia, type 2 diabetes, menstrual irregularities, infertility, weight problems
Musculoskeletal-muscle pain and spasms, neck and back pain, sciatica, temporomandibular joint pain
Psychological-anxiety, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, low sex drive, sexual dysfunction, sleep disorders, eating disorders, attention deficit disorder
The Stress-Aging Connection:
At the far end of the spectrum of complaints that may arise from a chronically stimulated stress response system-and the resulting stress/energy imbalance-is premature aging, along with age-related degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Despite this, centenarians now rank as the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population.
In recent years, scientists studying longevity have advanced various theories to explain why some people live to a healthy old age and others don't. While genes may be important, the difference between longevity rates now and 100 years ago most likely stems from the significant decrease in infant mortality at one end of the age spectrum and improved geriatric care at the other end. This is especially true now that medical interventions prevent many diseases from becoming fatal. In fact, it's beginning to appear that a normal human lifespan- barring accidents and life-threatening illness-is between 100 and 120 years!
Although details of the complex relationship between stress and aging-involving both environmental and genetic factors-are still emerging, we have enough information to draw some basic conclusions. Not surprisingly, much of the current research suggests that an overactive stress response system seems to accelerate the aging process. According to one theory of aging known as metabolic remodeling, healthy centenarians show less damage to their cells than their less healthy peers. Metabolic remodeling is one of several theories of aging under investigation.
Overall, healthy centenarians tend not to overreact to stress, and are careful to replenish their energy stores to maintain their good health. The successful adaptation of their stress response systems contributes to their longevity.
Of course, since the beginning of time, we humans have been searching for the secret to living longer. Today scientists are developing keys to unlock the human genome, as well as new tools to probe the mysteries of aging. In the meantime, we're being bombarded by a vast and confusing arsenal of "miracle" pills and potions that make outrageous antiaging claims. Some provide limited benefit, but most do nothing; most are harmless, though a few might actually be detrimental to your health.
As with most aspects of our existence, there's bad news and good news in our quest for eternal youth. The bad news is that no single potion will extend our lives forever. The good news is that we can dramatically improve our quality of life by staying as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Many people who adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle, and who do not suffer from chronic stress, are able to maintain a good quality of life up to 100 years of age-and sometimes beyond.
Sufficient energy is the sine qua non of good health. When we reviewed studies of the healthy elderly in the United States and abroad, we identified five factors as the essence of a long, productive, active life: a high-energy diet, physical and mental fitness, a strong social network, adequate sleep, and a clear, calm mind. We'll explore each one of these elements in depth later.
In addition, because no one dwells in a stress-free utopia where life unfolds exactly according to plan, we recommend a regimen of herbal and nutritional supplements that have helped us and our patients maintain a healthy balance between energy expenditure and energy renewal. Our personal and clinical experience has taught us that an integrated approach, including the judicious use of Rhodiola rosea to help enhance the body's energy production, can help us live well and happily as we grapple with unprecedented demands and pressures on our time.
In other words, each and every one of us has the power to get-and stay-energized for life, even in the face of stress. Rhodiola rosea is vital to replenishing energy stores and maintaining that all-important stress/energy balance.
Signs & Symptoms of Energy Loss:
Symptoms of energy loss are pretty much universal, regardless of the cause, commonly including:
Intolerance to cold
Restless, disturbed sleep
Feelings of muscle weakness
Slowed movements or central nervous system reactions
Shortness of breath.
How Do We Avoid an Energy Crisis?:
Think of the parasympathetic nervous system as the Environmental Protection Agency of the body. Just as mandatory speed limits conserve fuel, the parasympathetic system reduces energy expenditure by slowing the heart and respiratory rates and calming the brain. This enables cells to slow their energy production and reduce the release of oxygen free radicals. Then the cellular defenses have a chance to neutralize any existing free radicals and repair any damage before it becomes so severe that the cells lose their capacity to produce energy and end up being destroyed.
This means that if we don't train ourselves to slow down and take time to recharge-even when the stress in our lives is positive, as with the birth of a child or a promotion at work-our energy reserves stay chronically low and we're constantly battling burnout. Even the word burnout is on the mark because during times of severe or chronic stress, the stress response system literally burns extra energy. If we remain in this state long enough without shoring up our energy supplies, our bodies become vulnerable to disease and premature aging.
The good news is, we can easily replenish the energy we use when we're under stress. How? By balancing periods of intense mental and physical activity with periods of rest; by maintaining a healthy lifestyle; and by boosting our energy reserves with Rhodiola rosea and other natural energizers.
Energy and Muscle:Testosterone levels and Its Effects
Low testosterone levels::Low testosterone levels maybe impeding your success in the gym, sports field, sex drive, or just your general well being. These low levels in testosterone production can be brought about by a number of reasons:
Age: After 25 and more so after age 30, testosterone levels begin to decrease affecting your athletic performance, along with potential decreases in sex drive. Actually, by age 40, the average male produces approximately only 30% of the testosterone that he produced during his late teenage and early twenties. This figure is even less for growth hormone.
Stress: Stresses caused by work, lack of sleep, over-training syndrome, and many other reasons, can have a negative affect your testosterone:cortisol ratio. This will lead to a lack in performance, loss of muscle mass, reduced sex drive, all of which will just compound the situation leading to more stress and more negative affects.
Diet: Calorie restricted diets especially those low in fat can have a negative impact on testosterone production, given that testosterone is a fat derived hormone.
Increasing testosterone has additional benefits!
The American Food and Drug Administration estimates that 4 million to 5 million American men may suffer from low testosterone levels, but only 5 percent currently are being treated.
This can have some dire consequences for those individuals as many studies have found that low testosterone levels contribute to a variety of men's health problems, while higher levels can have significant positive effects on their health. Consider the following findings:
Researchers from the University of Washington have shown that men with low testosterone levels appear to be at greater risk of developing "pot bellies" according to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders in April 2000.
A decline in testosterone at any age increases a man's risk for osteoporosis. Older men with low testosterone levels are twice as likely to fracture their hips as men of the same age with normal testosterone levels, according to WebMDHealth.
Older men with lower levels of testosterone could have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, according to a preliminary data reported in the January 2004 issue of Neurology. Additionally, loss of testosterone seems to be at the root of some memory loss in men, according to research presented at the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting in October 2004.
Testosterone may help men recover from strokes, according to preliminary animal research that was conducted at St. Louis University and presented at the annual meeting of the American Neurological Association in October 2004.

Your vessels will ignite, your muscles will inflate, and your abs will tear. Your body of old will fall, while an entirely new unrecognizable physique will begin to unfold. Imagine if you will the ability to send your muscles a signal that they are training even when you are not in the gym.
Hercules I formulated following: These three anabolic supplements push muscle growth from a variety of angles:
Believe it or not, the best way to pack on lean muscle mass isn't by concentrating just on increasing muscle growth. You need a multitiered approach that includes
1) boosting the processes in muscle fibers that lead to more mass and
2) enhancing other physiological systems that can influence muscle hypertrophy.
3) Increase ATP, free testosterone, DHEA.Creatine.Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine.
To build more muscle, testosterone isn't the only concern ~ the immune and endocrine systems must be running at full efficiency. Keeping your thyroid gland in optimal health helps keep muscles growing because thyroid hormones are actually anabolic. As for your immune system, if it's run down due to excessive stress from superintense training or other daily stressors, your body won't spend energy on growth. Instead, it'll focus on kicking up your immune system in an effort to fight off any foreign invaders that could be making you sick.
Taking a supplement stack that stimulates protein synthesis in muscle fibers (aka muscle growth) and enables the body to better deal with stress is a smart idea. This jump-starts the process of muscle growth and keeps it ramped up. The following three supplements, when taken together, do just that. Muscle Science:Muscle and Muscle Metabolism.
Although the number of muscle fibres does not increase, they become bigger and stronger. The blood supply to the muscle fibres also improves, which means that more blood and oxygen can be transported to and from the muscle than before. The enzymes that help convert energy stores to energy for muscle contraction also become more efficient. They make better use of the available oxygen supply, and produce less lactic acid, so the muscle tires less easily. Overall, the performance of the muscle improves.
Skeletal muscle is comprised of two main types of muscle fibers, red and white. This difference is best seen in birds. The breast muscle of those that fly looks red, while the breast muscle of those like the chicken that flies only in short bursts is paler, almost white. Human skeletal muscles contain mixtures of these two main fiber Types, I (red) and II (white): see picture below. Thin cross sections of human muscle can be 'stained' for various enzyme activities and viewed under the microscope.
Here the darker 'red' fibers (Type I) show higher activity of the enzyme cytochrome oxidase which is part of the 'respiratory chain' in mitochondria of all types of cells. (Another enzyme, succinic dehydrogenase, that delivers energy to the respiratory chain also 'stains', mainly Type I fibers.)
Type I fibers 'burn' mainly fatty acids for sustained muscle activity and these are the ones that, in carnitine palmitoyl transferase (CPT II) deficiency, are unable to produce the energy needed for muscular activity, and for replacement of the enzymes, structural proteins and other constituents that are continuously being degraded in the fibers, as in all cells.
In contrast type II ('white') muscle fibers use for energy glucose derived from their glycogen content and are specialized for doing short bursts of work like the 100 yard sprint. Note the amount of ATP available is limited since it is not stored except by made by being converted into creatine phosphate by the enzyme creatine kinase (CK). This small store of creatine phosphate is rapidly exhausted. Then white (Type II) fibers rely for a few minutes on anaerobic glycolysis with muscle glycogen as fuel without using oxygen. But as lactic acid accumulates and must be converted back to glucose / glycogen the "oxygen debt" must be paid back by deep, fast breathing.
Then the Type II fibers also start using oxygen for aerobic glycolysis to burn glucose more efficiently. However the energy yield from glucose/glycogen is relatively poor (1 kiloCalorie per gram). More on aerobic vs anaerobic metabolism. Exercise => muscle metabolism.
After the first 5-6 minutes of activity Type I (red) fibers start burning fatty acids (FAs) to meet the energy needs for sustained muscular 'work'. For this to occur the FAs must enter the mitochondria of the Type I fibers and this requires the participation of carnitine palmitoyl transferase I & II. When there is a deficiency of carnitine palmitoyl transferase II in the inner mitochondrial membrane, lipid accumulation is occasionally seen in a muscle biopsy (see picture 2) and sometimes there is also a proliferation of mitochondria.
However, skeletal muscle structure appears to be normal in about 50% of cases while muscle lipid is found in only 20% of patients. Other structural anomalies include atrophies or necrosis of type I muscle fibers. In fact, structural features may vary depending on the delay between the attack and the muscle sampling.
What is an Adaptogen?
For thousands of years, people around the world have been using adaptogens to help their bodies deal with the effects of stress. The Chinese described adaptogens as superior plants that perform vital, supportive functions in the body, helping it adapt and remain healthy in unfavorable conditions.
Ancient cultures revered adaptogenic herbs for their profound balancing properties. For more than 40 years, adaptogens have been scientifically proven in clinical and laboratory studies for their therapeutic value, safety and effectiveness. To be considered a true adaptogen, a plant must conform to the following criteria:
It must be non-toxic and totally harmless to the body.
It must allow the continued normal physiological functioning of the individual.
The action it exerts must be nonspecific and should maintain normal body functions despite a wide range of onslaughts, stresses and traumas.
It should normalize body functions irrespective of existing pathological conditions.
Aditional Diet & Nutritional Suggestions:
Prevention is better than cure. Monitoring a healthy lifestyle through adequate sleep, a well balanced diet, exercise and relaxation are important alongside nutritional, hormonal and natural chemical restoration.
Many individual ingredients can be found to help increase your energy levels and ¡®put a spring into your step¡¯. These ingredients are indeed proven to initiate energy enhancing properties and include:
B Vitamins ¨C B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 - Essential vitamins needed for the release of energy from foods and many essential functions of the digestive and nervous system. They are essential in making red blood cells and in metabolic activity, helping to make energy, store it and release it when needed.
Alpha-GPC (Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine) - Works by increasing endogenous human Growth Hormone (hGH) secretion and acetylcholine (ACh) resulting in increased mental focus and exercise performance.
Natural Testosterone support ingredients - Avena Sativa (for increased free test levels), DIM for decreased bad estrogen formation with Panax Ginsing, Gynostemma and Cnidium Monnieri for increased Nitric Oxide levels.
Kre-Alkalyn/ATP formation support ingredients - Alpha Lipoic Acid, Chromium Polynicotinate and Vanadium (as Amino Acid Chelate) for increased insulin sensitivity to shuttle creatine, carbs and protein into the muscle for increased lean muscle mass gains and Sodium Phosphate for increased ATP production for more strength and power over using creatine alone.
Amino Acids:L-Arginine,L-Lysine,L-Tyrosine,L-Methionine Amino acids, the building blocks of proteins and muscle tissue. Studies show that even a single amino acid can specifically elevate general circulation within 15 minutes, providing a source of energy. They sustain energy-protein metabolism and promotes immunity and energy.
Bee Pollen:A natural energizer helpful against the aging process, shown to consistently increase energy levels. It contains various vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and protein. Increases in strength as high as 40-50% have been recorded in those taking regular doses of bee pollen.
Siberian Ginseng Extract:Boosts energy and alertness in older people. It contains polysaccharides and other natural sugar components, lipids, fatty acids, flavonoids and alkaloids. These ingredients alter blood flow to the brain and modify levels of neurotransmitters.
Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALC):Derived from lysine and methionine and synthesized in the liver and kidneys. It is essential in fatty acid oxidation and a key energy source for the body. Has shown an increase in metabolic rate and energy in cells exposed to toxins and treated with ALC.
Acetyl L-Cysteine A:stable form of l-cysteine used to produce glutathione, an antioxidant needed to fight free radicals. Increased Glutathione levels have found to increase health and energy status in elderly subjects.
Inositol Hexaphosphate:Found in whole grains and seeds. It assists in the regulation of various cell functions and has antioxidant properties. It is shown in clinical trials to inhibit free radicals and boost immune system activity.
The above phytochemicals are available individually and each has significant capabilities in their own right. However, to initiate effective treatment experts note these ingredients are not individually potent enough to combat energy loss issues and prevent reoccurrences.
Other Ways:Conventional Treatments and Its Negative Effects.
Prescription drugs are often given to try to increase energy levels. Many treat the symptoms that are apparently causing the fatigue, but suppressing these doesn¡¯t generally deal with the actual cause.
Also, when using conventional medications it is important to remember their potential for causing multiple side effects, some of which can be seriously detrimental to your health... for example...
These block cox-enzymes and reduce prostaglandins, treating inflammation and mid to medium pain and fever in conditions such as CFS and fibromyalgia.
Adverse effects include kidney damage, gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and dependency.
Low-Dose Tricyclic Antidepressants:Doxepin,Amitriptyline,Dsipramine,Nrtriptyline.
These balance brain chemicals (neurotransmitters), causing depressive conditions.
Adverse reactions include dry mouth, drowsiness, weight gain and elevated heart rate.
Including Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors:Fluoxetine,Sertraline,Paroxetine,Venlafaxine,Trazodon,Bupropion.
Adverse reactions include agitation, sleep disturbances and increased fatigue.
These interfere with norepinephrine and serotonin uptake in the brain, to treat depressive symptoms, sleeping difficulties and feelings of sluggishness.
Adverse reactions include sedation, amnesia and acute withdrawal symptoms.
Antibiotics, antivirals and antifungal agents that kill or inhibit bacterial growth.
Adverse effects include increasing the risk for resistant organisms.
Adverse reactions include drowsiness, fatigue and headache.
Antihypotensive / Antitachycardia Therapy:
Fludrocortisone - prescribed for CFS.
Atenolol - prescribed for patients with hypotension
Adverse reactions include elevated blood pressure and fluid retention.
Antiviral, designed to stimulate immune response modifiers.
Adverse reactions including potential liver damage have been reported in initial studies.
