Common Knowledge:19.Can I replace and substitute my prescription medications with herbs?

Common Knowledge Do not replace any of your prescription medicines with herbs unless supervised by your physician and doctor.

Herbs are usually best suited for treating early stages of illness and disease, and not as well suited for acute or emergency medical care.

A few herbs that are often directed as a replacement or before starting therapy with prescription drugs are St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) for mild to moderate depression, hawthorn (Crataegus oxycantha) for cardiovascular disease, saw palmetto for benign prostate enlargement, and kava kava (Piper methysticum) for mild anxiety.
