Witchcraft Glossary give discussions to myth and ritual, alchemistry and other relatives, witchcraft and witchery!Witchcraft, in various historical, anthropological, religious and mythological contexts, is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers. Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property.
Since the mid 20th century, the term witchcraft has sometimes been used to distinguish between bad witchcraft and good witchcraft, with the latter often involving healing. The concept of witchcraft as harmful is normally treated as a cultural ideology, a means of explaining human misfortune by blaming it either on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community. A witch (from Old English wicce f. / wicca m.) is a practitioner of witchcraft.
The "witch-cult hypothesis", a controversial theory that European witchcraft was a suppressed pagan religion, was popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Since the mid-20th century, Witchcraft has become the self-designation of a branch of neopaganism, especially in the Wicca tradition following Gerald Gardner, who claimed a religious tradition of Witchcraft with pre-Christian roots.

Protective Herb:According to herbal tradition, herbs associated with the element of fire and planet Mars, carry strong, forceful qualities,a type of warrior energy, just as the Roman god Mars did.Plants that have a planetary correspondence to Mars tend to be used for protective purposes, herbs like this considered as protective plants, such as thistle and holly leaf.
The thistle is a classical protective,Witch's garden plants. Its spiny stems and leaves ward away intruders and protect the bearer from melancholy.
Holly leaves have the charming folk name of "bat wings," and careful checking you will find the leaves really have a bat-wing look. The holly shrub protects the home from lightning and is often incorporated into midwinter festivities,as it is an evergreen plant and symbolizes life, good luck, and renewal.0
Purpose:Take a moment center your focus and calm your mind to make sure what you really need from a herbal spell?the goal of the spell or charm.with self prepare or written down this if necessary. Its a kind of elements of magic spells.
Planetary Correspondences:The planets influence magic a great deal. They have traditionally been the basis for many correspondences, those of the days of the week in particular. (See Time Correspondences) Each of the planets has been associated with a group of ritual intents that they are considered to rule. The influence of each planet is determined though these historic associations. When choosing the correspondences to include in your ritual take into consideration the nature of the planets and their areas of rulership.
The following tables provide you with a number of correspondences for the planets, choose the planet that most closely relates to your ritual intent and utilize it to add it's influence to your magic. You will note that not all the planets are used in some of these charts. This is due to the fact that many of them are based upon traditional or historic associations devised before all the planets were known. The planets used most frequently in magic are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. You will note that some of the associations come from tarot, ritual magic, the Kabbala or other traditions. All are perfectly valid, choose according to your ritual intent and what feels right to you.2
Perennial:A perennial plant is one that lives for three or more years.
Pocket Charm:A pocket charm is a tiny charm bag or herbal amulet that you can carry in your pocket while you are on the go.A pocket charm is just what is sounds like:a little talisman or herbal amulet that you can tuck in your pocket and take with you.
Posy:An old term for a small,hand-held bouquet.Also known as a tussie-mussie or nosegay.
Pine:Pine(Pinus spp).Sacred to the Druids, the pine was known as one of the seven chieftain trees of the Irish.Mix the dried needles with equal parts of juniper and cedar;burn to purify the home and ritual area. The cones and nuts can be carried as a fertility charm.A good magical cleansing and stimulating bath is made by placing pine needles in a loose-woven bag and running bathwater over this.to purify and sanctify an outdoor ritual area, brush the ground with a pine branch.
Paramon:Paramon. This plant has black hairs and a yellow cap and grows near bogs.Given in milk it would protect you from evil spirits and illness.3
Perelet-trava:Perelet-trava("flying herb").This was sought on St John's Eve and guaranteed good luck.Dal' puts a question mark after his identification of this herb with the fern.
Perenos:Perenos(Eryngium). This was a specific for snakebite and a demonifuge, the latter property being shared by prostrel (properly Pulsatilla). The plant perekos recorded by Vinogradov as being like a man and sending reptiles and men to sleep,is probably a variant, perhaps even a copyist's misreading (n and k in some hands are very similar).
Petrov.krest:Petrov.krest(lit.'Peter's cross'-Lathraea squammaria according to Dal'):This protected from all harm, and if you were going to a feast would guard you from 'heretics' and sudden death. It was recommended in pulverized form, rolled in wax from candles which had burned before icons of the Saviour or the Virgin;it was to be worn on the pectoral cross of those who had an unhappy home life.fishermen tied it to their pectoral cross as an amulet against the Evil Eye.4
Plakun-trava:Plakun-trava(lit.'weeper-grass').Dal' identifies it with four different plants;Koren gives only Lythrum salicaria. The plakun-trava "weeper-grass" was, according to the Golubinnaia kniga, the "religious song" which is a kind of anthology of folk cosmology,a herb on which the Virgin's tears fell at the Crucifixion, and this is why it is the 'mother of all plants'.One version of the song states that the root is fashioned into crosses in Russia for the salvation of monks, old men and youths.According to Sakharov magicians gathered it at dawn on St John's Day using a non-ferrous implement. Its flower and root had the property of subduing demons, and driving them out of possessed persons, and magicians and treasure-hunters used it to frighten off the demons who guard treasure. When the plant had been dug up the magician would take it to church, stand at the latar holding the root and facing east, and recite a spell inviting the plant to "drown in tears all devils and ancient Kievan witches".Sakharov declares tantalizingly that he cannot bring himself to describe what is done next, but claim that magic herb books have been imported from Poland and Belorussia which contain ceremonies associated with this plant which are contrary to religion.Markevich notes that it is potent against the Evil Eye,sorcerers, demons, and house sprites(domovoi). The plakun is one of the first magic plants to be recorded:in 1488 bishop Gennadii of Novgorod writes to bishop Nifont that among the religious abuses of the Novgorodians a priest had given a peasant a pectoral cross made of plakun with an "indecent" depiction on it,and that a clerk had turned all the icons upside down. This chance reference demonstrates that many examples of magical folk belief may well be much older than the obvious written sources reveal.5
Poputnik:Poputnik(Plantago). This drove away snakes, was an antidote to poisons, and if boiled with honey and gunpowder would cure internal disorder.
Posolnechnik:Posolnechnik(Sunflower). If gathered in August, bound up with a wolf's tooth, and worn on the belt, this would give you an ingratiating power over all you meet and drive away thieves.
Prikrysh.Dal':Prikrysh.Dal'(s.v.prikryvat'.'cover,hide') mentions only prikryt for varieties of aconite.Possibly the name is cognate with prikryi "bitter",but has become associated with prikryt' 'to hide' by popular etymology. This would explain the quality attribute to the plant in the Ukraine where the prikryi was thought to prevent spells or libellous calumnies against the bride at weddings. In Russia the plant is gathered during the period 15 August to 1 October. It is used to counteract hostile spells at weddings:when the bride is being led to the marital home the znakhar' runs ahead and places some of this plant under the threshold. When the bride arrives she must jump over the threshold---if she steps on the plant any hostile spells will affect her,if not they will rebound on those who wished the couple ill.6
