What is Web accessiblity?
Accessibility is an important idea behind the many Web standards used in the development of evohcc.com. Not only does this mean allowing the Web to be used by people with disabilities, but also allowing Web pages to be understood by people using browsers other than the usual ones - including voice browsers that read Web pages aloud to people with sight impairments, Braille browsers that translate text into Braille, hand-held browsers with very little monitor space, teletext displays, and other unusual output devices.
WCAG guidelines and Rehabilitation Act of 1973,508 section.
Although the fact is the majority of websites still don't take WCAG (W3C accessibility guidelines) into consideration,we are aware of the importance of having web content accessible to as many audiences as possible and making improvement on this.
we are making sure doing test the content accessibility of our new version pages, try our best to identify errors in page content related to Rehabilitation Act of 1973,508 section and/or the WCAG guidelines.
In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. The law applies to all Federal agencies when they develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. Under Section 508 (29 U.S.C.'794d), agencies must give disabled employees and members of the public access to information that is comparable to the access available to others. It is recommended that you review the laws and regulations listed below to further your understanding about Section 508 and how you can support implementation.
Section 508 requires that Federal agencies' electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities. IT Accessibility and Workforce Division, in the U.S. General Services Administration's Office of Governmentwide Policy, has been charged with the task of educating Federal employees and building the infrastructure necessary to support Section 508 implementation. Using this web site, Federal employees and the public can access resources for understanding and implementing the requirements of Section 508.
Strict standard and Accessibility.
Strict standard pages naturally has property of "accessibility",not only common browsers could read these pages, some disabled persons can also explore them with blind browser, sound reader explore, etc. The reason we choose strict for this purpose means we show respect to Rehabilitation Act of 1973,508 section,to reduce the obstruction of electronic and IT applications to the disabled persons.
Screen Readers,Dyslexia,Cognitive Disability,Low Vision and Motor Impairment got respected here no discriminations.
An accessible site is easier to navigate even for non-handicapped users. It requires less of an effort in trying to figure out the ins and outs, is more tidy and organized and equally important-gets bonus points with search engines, that are eager to promote accessible sites.
When users surf sites that don't conform to WCAG, they usually get a disrupted site, that is hard to navigate, and very time and effort consuming. Even normal users may experience frustration and disorientation when they come by a hastily designed site, with no consideration for slower or old fashioned surfers.
Accessibility Testing.
We do performing and will finishing strict accessibility testing for all pages published and in upgrading of the new version ©2010,with various tools and standard to reach a very strict testing which can be benefit all our vistors.
The testing of accessibility now going on we use WAVE 3.0 Web Accessibility Tool to check, this standard reference to WCAG 1.0 and section 508 act, which is a start up point for our online web pages coming toward a more strict accessibility standard.
The testing tools we plan to apply in the coming future will include more other strict standard, such as:TAW Web Accessibility Test(which also reference to WCAG 1.0),HiSoftware CynthiaSays portal,HERA Accessibility testing with Style,Juicy Studio CSS Analyser,Juiciy Studio Readability Test.
